Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) is a Vietnam veteran driving a cab in New York City. He has trouble holding a job, and has insomnia. He has frequent headaches and angers easily. He's sort of what would be called a "Gypsy Driver", because he goes anywhere in the city without fear. Impressed by a young woman that he has been watching, Betsy (Cybil Shepherd), he starts to be a supporter of the presidential candidate for whom she works. With his perspective becoming more and more clouded, Travis very clumsily asks Betsy out to a movie and takes her to a porno film. She is insulted and leaves. It is obvious that Travis has limited experience and doesn't know how to act around the opposite sex. Swayed by another driver who is talking one night about the need to be able to defend ones self, he buys a number of guns. While shopping one night, a robber holds up the store, and Travis shot him. Now he can add vigilantism to his talents. Having been rejected by Betsy, Travis now starts having thoughts of targeting the candidate she is working for. Somehow he now is hearing voices, and is planning to kill him. His headaches are getting worse. He is constantly practicing with these weapons and now has cut his hair into a Mohawk. He is really getting wacked out. He sends gifts and flowers to Betsy, but only further alienates her. One night, a very young girl jumps into his cab ad tells him to just get her out of there. Before he can go, a guy drags her out of the cab and throws Travis $20. He later finds out that the girl is a twelve year old prostitute named Iris (Jodie Foster). She is a runaway and the guy, "Sport" is her pimp. Travis offers her money to get away, but she is trapped. Now Travis is at the height of his mental illness and confusion and plans to get Sport and the rest of the bums in this whorehouse operation. He plans to die also in one last blaze of glory. The ensuing gunfight is brutal and as bloody and graphic as any that I had seen to date. Travis, shot up and bloodied, actually comes out of this fight as the hero, having rescued Iris, and being written up in the newspapers. A few months later, Travis is back behind the wheel of a cab. A fare waves him over. It is Betsy. She tells him that she read the story. . .Read full review
Robert Deniro plays Travis Bickle, a young lonely badass taxi driver on the streets of new york city.Ive always enjoyed this movie so i decided to upgrade to bluray finally and i must say they did a pretty great job with the bluray transfer on a movie from 1976.If you like Robert Deniro's movies then youll most likely enjoy Taxi Driver.Jodie Foster plays a 13 year old prostitute in which travis ultimately ends up saving from that lifestyle.I dont want to be too much of a spoiler so just buy and enjoy!

It came in Blu-ray and in a hard case that unfolded 3 ways with pictures onit. Inside was a dozen 5 x 7 inch card color pictures of the actors, like mini posters. Great value to a collection of DeNiro movies. Also very clear, good job presenting it in blu-ray.
