This antenna has great wide band reception (25 to 300 mhz very good gain and has expected low vswr for low power transmission using a ant coupler. Overall gain is low on average 3-5 db 25 t0 200 Mhz and about 1-2 db at higher frequencies. Upper frequency bands 500 to 1300 Mhz are ok for purely scanner modes receiving only unless you use a good quality antenna tuner with these frequencies. Gain is about 2 db. Antenna is a very reasonable cost for what it can do.

Despite claims, will not work on 50mhz and 72mhz transmit. Works acceptably on 10m, 2m, 70cm with very low SWR. Signal 3 S points down on my Watson V2000 tri bander, but as a wide receive antenna it's pretty good.

I mounted this antenna about 10 days ago about 14 feet off the ground. I had no idea what I was missing! My Whistler scanner was getting stuff from 25 miles away with the antenna that came with it and I was happy. This discone antenna has at least doubled the distance plus picks up frequencies the back-of-the-set telescopic antenna did not. It looks delicate but I dropped it to the ground when mounting it in the wind ( I should have waited ) and nothing bent or broke. I'm very impressed. I didn't get it to transmit CB so I can't comment on that. But clearly receiving signals 50 miles away with being only 14 feet up is great. I can't wait to get it on my roof!

If you use all the rods, it is a great scanner antenna. I modified mine to 1/4 wave ground plane. Works great for TX as well as RX. Saved the additional rods, for other projects. It does come with some CB adjustable nodes. I do not use CB so in the spare radio box they go for someone in the future.

It's large (Not HUGE) and very well balanced. The bottom feedpoint is recessed and a little tricky to get tight, once all the radials are installed, but I weighed that difficulty as minor since it provides better weather protection. Transmit is noticeably better in 2meter and 70cm, but the real plus is the bandwidth of reception. I'm hearing signals that I know I can't talk to. But listening is half the entertainment. For under 60 bucks, you shouldn't be disappointed.
