The only two songs worth repeated playing on this disc are the two covers. The Stones' Gimme Shelter, and Traffic's Feelin' Alright should have made it apparent that most of their own compositions weren't quite up to snuff. Let's not forget that several of their later hits were covers as well. Some Kind of Wonderful is the best example. They did get better with each of the next four LPs. The enclosed notes go to extreme measures to try and convince the reader that the music on the disc had some social/political relevance. It goes so far as to suggest Survival is a companion to Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On. A bit of a stretch, I'd say. Let's just enjoy the two good songs per LP they always gave us, and remember Grand Funk as a fun, well-meaning (if wrong-headed) part of our youth.Read full review

One of Grand Funk's most unique albums. The sound is so different it qualifies as a style unto itself. (Donnie Brewer put towels over the drum heads to get the sound that is unique to this album alone). It is a wonderful mix of introspective (I can feel Him in the morning), social commentary (All you got is money), and as always, it's always "Grand Funkin' Rock'n'Roll", meaning fine performances by all involved. ( And don't forget the added bonus trackes, all previously unavailable)If you like GFR, you'll love this album!
