No instructions to put it together, but it came 80% assembled, and a few web pictures revealed the factory had the handle bars reversed which was an easy fix. It DOES come with pedals despite the picture. This is low-end Trek type of bike, or very high-end Walmart type. My wife is 5'2" with short arms and legs and fits perfect on this bike, even with the seat raised a little. The trick with diy assembly is adjusting the breaks and gear-shifters, which requires the supplied allen-wrench and some pliers. I love the versatility of the handlebars. They can be up like a beach bike, or down for racing, whatever is most comfortable for the rider. The 21 speed gear-shifting is smooth and the breaks really grab hard. You can downshift 3 gears at a time if you push the shifter hard. Up-shifting is just 1 gear at a time. The tires are wider than normal road tires but thinner than a typical mountain bike, and have a high 80psi rating. The alloy frame, aluminum rims and plastic fenders keep the bike lightweight. The cranks for the pedals are nice and thick so they won't bend if you really have to put some weight on them. Both front and rear wheels are quick-disconnect. It's like they fused a road bike and a beach bike together and called it a 'commuter' bike. It was the only lightweight 7+ speed women's bike I could find for under $300.
