Aaahhh Maine. Vacationland - really it's on their plates! Lovely place to visit if you have never read or seen a movie based on a book by Stephen King. If you have then you will probably be all paranoid and uneasy the whole time. A "storm of the century" is about to hit a village on an small island off the East coast. So while everyone is leaving, getting ready to leave or stocking up on provisions a creepy man kills an older lady. The man actually waits in the house for the police to arrest him. of course they are stuck with the man since the time to leave the island has come and gone. He sems to know everyone's deep dark secrets and keeps saying that he will leave as soon as they give him what he wants. Fine, but he keeps dragging his feet about what exactly it is that he wants. He makes people kill others by using his cane to deliver the message. By the time he says what he wants you pretty much know what he wants. Actually even before that you know who it involves - I am trying not to give too much away but it is pretty predictable. Acting was pretty good - actually got a crush on Tim Daly from this miniseries - and the scenery was amazing. I did not find it creepy - which is a must for me to find a horror movie effective - or scary, but it was entertaining. If you like slashers or gore then skip it. Yes, there is some violence and blood but nothing spectacular - remember this was on tv.Read full review
Love the depth of this movie, just wish it was remastered. the movie gives another take on the Roanoke disappearance. I personally love horror, thriller, mystery movies and books. So this one has all of that and will keep you hooked right from the beginning. The movie has a lttle length to it so be prepared to be watching for a while but, its fully worth the wait. The ending has a huge twist and it keeps you right in the action throughout the movie and you learn a lot about each character and there secrets and weaknesses and how they play a key role in the end of the movie. You will love and enjoy just as I and all my friends have. Chose this movie, good price and worth the buy.
I saw Stephen King's Storm of the Century (1999) on television when it was first aired. I remember-- at that time--how engrossed I became. Because of that feeling...I knew I had to have this DVD for my collection and view Storm of the Century again. I have to say--after watching a second time--I am even more engrossed in the plot, after realizing I had missed picking up some details of the movie the first time! If you love Steven King or mysteries or haunting, intriguing plots.... Stephen King's Storm of the Century is for you!!

I love any and all of Stephen King's works. This one is no exception. It tests the human spirit in a way that is not only thrilling, but on the edge of your seat waiting for is going to happen next. Granted they did give up too easy, but what would you do? One can only speculate until placed in that position. I have been collecting his books since before the "Richard Bachman" days and over half are signed 1st Edition's.

Small town in Maine is cutoff from mainland by deadly snowstorm. A stranger is linked to a series of bizarre murders, and lead by the town sheriff this close knit community if forced to face a choice that will change their lives. I love most horror genre, but this has a luring suspenseful plot with thrills all along the way. Has a bit of apocalyptic feel, and the extended length of this movie adds to it. Not a lot of fancy special effects just good storytelling translated into a film.
