I own a Stonfo dubbing spinner that I like very much- high quality and excellent functionality. So, I had high hopes of getting my hands on a Stonfo bobbin. I was very disappointed. Although the bobbin/threadholder was of high quality and nicely made, it became clear after some trials with several different threads, that this bobbin (at least the one that I received) was not built to accommodate standard US thread spools. Rather, it appeared that it was intended for spools smaller in width. With standard thread spools installed (e.g., Danville, UTC, UNI, etc.), the rim of the spools actually rubbed against the metal arms of the bobbin. I found this bobbin unusable, so returned it. (I own and use 7 or 8 bobbins of various makes, none of which show this kind of problem.) Of course, it's possible I received a defective bobbin!Read full review

The light weight, nose tube and thumb grip are good. It needs a clutch for the spool like the more pricey bobbins. If it had a clutch that actually stayed where you set it (unlike the more pricey ones which don't) it would be superior. Add something like the adjustable drag on a fishing reel - it's just a coil spring added to an existing clutch style. It already has a through spindle so; the main feature is there now.

The bobbin size is mis-leading, a standard spool does not fit correctly, the wire has to be bent so the spool does not sit against the wires. The bullet spool holders sit at such an angle they do not allow the spool to spin freely so I had to bend the wire to accommodate a standard spool. I did see this in previous reviews should have paid attention.

this is a great traditional style wire bobbin holder, despite what the other reviewers are saying... it's tube doesn't fray even my finest thread (Gordon Griffiths 14/0 and gutermann skala 360), the wire legs fit all my thread spools from 3/4 to 1 1/2", (including UTC, UNI, and Danville) when I take the time to adjust the bobbin holder for them. it's contact pads are well finished and its a matter of seconds to tweak the legs and pads to fit and provide the tension I'm after, often with just my fingers not even needing to use pliers. If your spools are standard size or smaller then you can use this sized bobbin holder. for those that are not used to this style of bobbin - If you find the wire legs are dragging on your spool you slightly bend the knee of the leg inwards and that will add clearance for your spool. if the tension is too high slightly spread the entire legs wider. The best I've used. They're simple, cheap, and made of quality materials. I particularly like that they're relatively short so even with a little extra thread out, they hang.
