I enjoy building models of various types. I recently purchased the Stingray model kit on Ebay. I always enjoyed the design of the Stingray vessel and had fond memories of the the show from childhood. I purchased the DVD set to help me with construction details for my model. It has been a fun adventure the last month or so watching this DVD set of 39 episodes. It is well done and holds up to the test of time. The scripts are well done for a half hour "kids" show. I felt myself getting into the characters, forgetting that they are puppets. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson did a wonderful job on this series. It was well worth the time watching. It was also fun watching the DVD features, and getting some behind the scenes details from the Andersons. I would Highly recommend seeing this Supermarionation series.Read full review
Loved it! The menus are laid out well and are easy to understand. The picture and sound quality are very good, especially considering the 1960s footage that this was made from. As a child I watched these episodes in Black and White. To see them now in full color makes them even more enjoyable. I am impressed to this very day at the detail that went into each episode. It is not "HD", but played very well on my HD set anyway, especially when played on a DVD player that upconverts SD via an HDMI hookup. You can't beat the price. I'm going to buy one for a friend.
This brought back many fun memories of the 1960's when I grew up with Saturday morning TV. Fireball XL5, one of the first Gerry Anderson TV shows let my imagination run-away. Travelling to different Galaxies, fighting Aliens etc, I was 6 when I first saw it and was hooked. I have purchased the complete set of this TV show also and am really enjoying reliving all of the cool episodes. Stingray was the second Gerry Anderson show that inspired my imagination. Underwater civilizations, cool vehicles and it was also in Colour. This DVD set is complete with all the episodes, digitally remastered images and some very enjoyable commentaries about Supermarionation and how each episode was crafted.
WOW, what a blast from the past!!! This was my favorite show when I was a really little kid, about four or five years old. And yes I still remembered some of the scenes. Even though todays shows are more sophisticated, and Stingray may seem a bit campy at times, the attention to detail like the nautical slang, character/story progression and all those shimmery/shinny painted backgrounds and sets that a lot of these kids shows had back then to keep grabbing your attention is still simply amazing. Alot of imagination went into this show, and it shows. I really had a good chuckle while watching it for the first time again after 44 years. I highly recommend this Stingray set to anyone, especially those who have seen it the first time around in 1964. It will deffinatly put a smile on your face. ENJOY!!!Read full review
wow...what a treat! you know...the very first episode, included here, was aired way back when and the voice was ahead of the puppet's lip movements;a production staff error. it's all here, too,on the dvd-just as i remembered it having this malady. anyway, the whole series really kicks! it is fun to watch and educational at the same time. the miniature sets and bigger than life stories were the draw to the program. lastly, the price is right for this set. not like some other companies that charge way more for series like this. if you buy this set, you will be-a happy camper-let me tell you!--good show!
