I loved this book, for the type of book it is - which is an entertaining, funny type of detective novel. I love Ms. Evanovich's characters - they are so real, so human, and so very distinct. There is something that stands out about each individual that makes them different from the others, and likeable, with all their flaws and weaknesses. I think we can see a little bit about ourselves in each of them. Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter who doesn't want to shoot anyone, and finds other, innovative and often humerous methods of trapping her prey. Her friends at the Bond office where she works for her sex pervert cousin Vinny are just as distinctive - an ex hooker named Lula, and a tough talking secretary named Connie. Her love interest, a hard nosed cop named Morelli is ever elusive about his feelings for Stephanie, but always interested, and her mentor, seasoned bounty hunter Ranger, is as secretive and intriguing as Batman - where does he come from? Where do his expensive cars come from? What is his story? Stephanie's family, especially Grandma Mazur, weaves in and out of her stories in the background, reminding me of Sopia Petrillo of The Golden Girls - a spunky, ready for action grandma in her seventies, always willing to help Stephanie out with a new mystery. I read this book because I tried the first two, and loved how quickly they moved. They are not great literature, for sure, but are excellent entertainment if you are just looking for a light, funny read, that will lift your spirits, and make you laugh out loud at times. You get an immediate feel for the "Burg", the area where Stephanie was born and raised. Where the Mafia used to abound, and almost everyone is stashing a hidden gun somewhere, even the old ladies. It's a place where everyone seems to know what everyone else is doing, and who is dating whom, and where much information is passed around at the neighborhood beauty parlor. I'm anxiously awaiting book number 4, which should arrive any day now!Read full review
Anyone who enjoys a good read that is to include, humor, mystery, romance and some embarrassing moments - has to read this series. Book three, is only the tip of the iceberg you will have to begin with one and go through 13. Janet Evanovich has brought to life these quirky characters as bounty hunters trying to track down the bad guys and almost getting killed by numerous perps. As Stephanie tries to have an on again off again relationship with Joe and hidden feelings for Ranger. While trying to do all of this, she endures her crazy family, most of all her Grandmother. You will actually Laugh Out Loud more than once, the descriptiveness that is used is phenomenal. You feel like you are inside of the story. Definitely a must read for any avid reader.
I love this series!

Everything you'd expect in a Stephanie Plum story -- mystery, death threats, funny / embarrassing moments, romance and an FTA in a chicken suit. As with all the stories, you don't have to read the previous books to follow the story (they explain background / characters quickly as they enter the story), but I'd suggest it nonetheless.
I bought my 1st of these because my aunt said it was the funniest thing she'd ever read although it wouldn't improve your mind. She's right. I may have to buy all 23. :)
