I use this drafting pencil as an artist, more than an engineering perspective. It feels perfectly fitted to the form of my hand, and a perfect weight and balance. When I draw people, I do it with this pencil. I find that the best are often the classics, and was delighted to find this product has become my absolute favorite. Quality has a look and a feel, and you get both of those with Staedtler. If you seek genuine craftsmanship, attention to detail, and excellence in execution, you've found it.

This is of better quality to most Chinese manufactured Lead Holders. Although, it not as good as the German manufactured pencils. It has GERMANY printed on the pencil body giving the impression that it is made in Germany, but it is not. It is made in Korea or China (referring to the "C" in "780 C"). The mechanism operates smoothly and shows no sign of snagging as the lead slides through the jaw. It comes with an inbuilt lead pointer in the push-button which sharpens the leads very efficiently. I did not get a pencil box included as indicated in the image. This would be a good pencil for any student wanting a robust pencil. If you want real quality, I recommend looking for the German made lead-holders, but this is a good alternative.

This Staedler mechanical pencil is made to last a lifetime. It´s made of metal but it still is very light and won´t make me tired from writing several hours with it. The lead it came with is a delight to write with. It slides through the paper. By using this pencil instead of a wood one, I will save the life of plenty of trees.

These are not used much anymore and expensive when you find one. I still use one on occasion for a quick drawing. I don't know how a German Staedtler Mars pencil comes from Asia for less cost but I got one and it looks and works great. Good quality.

These are genuine German-made Mars Staedtler draftsman's lead holders. I was surprised to find they were the German made article and not a modern version made in China. Honest description, and new pencils without any damage or wear from being in storage. I am an "old school" engineer and still do my plans and drawings using a drawing board and lead holders (mechanical pencils). I was pleasantly surprised to find the original lead holders still available.
