I purchased this used movie for the price of a dvd rental because I have never seen it for rent and I haven't seen it on television for over 30 years. I was only 10 at the time and I saw it on tv while my parents were out for the evening. After watching it, both my babysitter and myself regretted that we had watched it but only because it scared me. Now that I am an old man, it's not as scary as it was at the time, in fact it's not scary at all (for an adult or teenager) but it is actually a much better movie than I would have expected from it 30 years later. I personally found it interesting because I have an interest in reptiles and because I always like to view movies from my youth in order to test my memory of them. I was also impressed by the fact that the movie is a ZanuckBrown production as they produced one of the greatest films of all time, Jaws. They are also responsible for several other great titles such as Cocoon, Cocoon:The Return, The Island, The Sting, Deep Impact and The Sugarland Express. Sssssss is probably the worst of their movies but it is definitely worth taking the time to watch if you are (1)interested in snakes or (2) interested in seeing the mistreatment of animals for the sake of Hollywood. This movie was obviously made before animals had any rights groups looking out for them on movie sets. If neither of those 2 reasons is enough for you to watch this movie, the only other excuse to watch it would be to see any of it's four most famous actors, Strother Martin, Dirk Benedict, Michael Masters or Reb Brown who plays a bullying jock who picks on Dirk Benedict's character and then kills Dr. Carl Stoner's(Strother Martin) favorite pet snake while trying to break into the doctor's house in an attempt to have his way with the doctor's daughter. Dr. Stoner exacts his revenge against the jock by putting a black mamba in the shower with the Reb Brown's character. Two things I found humorous about the revenge is that in a close up of the black mamba's cage, black is spelled "balck" on the cage but is spelled correctly on a secondary label on the cage. The second humorous scene involves a college girl, whom Reb Brown had slept with shortly before being bitten to death, turns herself into the police (the cause of death was ruled as a heart attack) as she thinks she is responsible for killing him due to the fact that he was in training and the coach only allowed him to have sex once per night. The girl tells the officers that it's her fault because "she loved him three times" that night. This was Reb Brown's first movie ever and though I didn't know his name at the time of watching Sssssss, I did recognize him. After looking him up on IMDB and was amazed at all of the movies and shows he has been in and that he is still actively working. One last cool thing about this movie is it's title. I like to ask people if they have ever seen "Sssssss" with 7 S's!Read full review
There are a few of the old movies I and my son rememerber as being extra weird or funny and I just want to relive those memories. The old scientist who was turning his assistants into cobras to sell to the circus was a unique idea - why, I don't know. But then this is a movie. The special effects - slowly turning into a cobra were very good except for the last part of the transformation. The producers seemed to be in a hurry to get through it. I think they should have extended that part a little longer. All in all it was a pretty good movie - for an old one. Eventually, the second assistant made love to the old scientist's daughter - when is "The Son of SSSSSSS" coming out? Doris Phelps
It brings me back to my youth. I did not know how many of my friends had never seen it. It was entertaining for my friends see it. It would never had won a academy award and that was also what made it entertaining . Some of the acting and movie directing made it humorous as well as spooky and scary.

For the low price and high quality playback of dvd so worth it that we purchased this same dvd from same seller twice! We misplaced 1st one, so when friend who we originally bought to show him movie arrived for his visit, since 1st purchase experience perfect... simply bought it again :) And if have never seen this movie you are in for a treat! Cast includes the lovely, lately passed Heather Menzies who was one of the children actors in The Sound of Music and wife of also deceased Robert Urich, Dirk Benedict who my husband recognized right away from the old 'A Team" tv show... and the great gravel-voiced Strother Martin! Besides the super cast, the movie itself is perfect 70's scary.... what could be creepier than actually trying to turn a man into a snake...yikes is right!! I first saw this movie at the drive-in as a teen and never forgot it... anyone who's seen it likely feels the same... and anyone who has not definitely should!!Read full review

I'd seen this when I was 10 or 12 and back then I thought it was Bad (but in the good way, think "Plan 9"). It has only "improved" with age, especially seeing the A-Team's FaceMan in the starring role. If you want a fun, silly, horrible movie... this is at the top.
