This is a hysterically funny comedy, especially if you grew up in America in the south in the 70's and 80's. It also has a great tale to tell about being gay in a small town in the same era, and the struggles for families with gay members as well . Many stars are in this movie doing an excellent job. They put their heart and energy into this small film because of the content written into the script was very important at the time, and still is today in many parts of America and around the world .

I am a BIG fan of both Del Shores and of the "Sordid Lives" TV series. I had some very high expectations -- which this film fell far short of meeting. It amazes me that the same set of characters could be so hilariously funny in the tv series.. and so incredibly boring in the movie. The movie plods along...you find yourself checking your watch to see how much longer it will last. Fans of the TV Series will NOT enjoy this movie. It tries to be "Poignant" when it could have made a much more entertaining movie by embracing its comedic elements. Can;t recommend this one...

I wanted to see this movie for a long time since I had first heard of it a couple of years ago...when I FINALLY remembered to look for it since it was a small indi type movie I first looked at the local rental store and they suggested I look on e-bay for a copy. I did. The movie was very good! I love Leslie Jordan and Delta Burke (from Designing Women) and thought they were both very good in the movie. The movie reminded me of another of my favorite chick flicks "Steel Magnolias" because it had strong women in the roles, not just for window dressing. the main difference in the movies were Sordid Lives was much more raunchy! I believe anyone who enjoys a fun movie would enjoy this one. It is just a funny, yet touching, movie. (four stars out of five )
WHAT WOULD WE ALL DO IF WE WERE TO WAKE UP ONE MORNING AND FIND WE WERE PART OF A FAMILY SUCH AS THIS SLIGHTLY WIERD BUNCH... WELL STEP BACK FOLKS.. CHECK IT OUT.. IF YOU ARE FROM THE SOUTH ... THIS COULD BE YOU !!!!..I SAW MANY SCENARIOS THAT WERE CLOSE TO HOME FOR ME...TOO CLOSE !! DELTA BURKE AND GANG HAVE A CULT CLASSIC HERE.... JUST THE ROLE OF THE AUNTIE TRYING TO STOP SMOKING BY USING HOMEMADE AVERSION THERAPY IS PRICELESS .. CHECK OUT BROTHER BOY!! WHILE SOME PART DO DRAG (no pun intended) overall a must see.
Hide this movie when Jesus returns. I'm a fan of Olivia Newton-John's. But I was a bit disgusted by Olivia's character "Bitsy Mae Harling". What was most nauseating was her sticking her chewing gum here there and everywhere, then putting it back in her mouth after singing. Is Olivia trying to alienate the girl next door image of the 1970's, along with her fan base? I grew up in the 1980's, I never thought Olivia would be gross. The movie is more crass than class. Every joke was overplayed to a degree. Overall the movie was funny and entertaining. But it had an element of disrespect to one's intelligence.
