I have only used this to play blu ray dvd's and it works like it is supposed to. The functions on the remote are easy to use. I have not used it online but the interface for the HDMI on my Samsung TV works very well with this unit. I like that it automatically connects to the TV when I hit the power button on the remote. So far, it was the best deal I could find even after the "Black Friday" sales and it looked brand new out of the box. It was shipped within 3 days of winning the bid. If you need a decent blu-ray player at a low cost, I would definitely recommend this one.
I bought the BLU-Ray player because I just bought a HD TV. The selling point for me was that its capable of downloading netflix and youtube. But the problem is this model is not wireless, the next one up is and the descriptions for the player were not clear. Though in hindsight the reviews for the wireless are not good, (streaming is not steady, jerky image.) i now own a Wii and can do all the same features. I use the Blu Ray to play movies and it works and looks awesome, even the standard def dvds look amazingly better. For the price (i paid about 70) I think I got the biggest bang for my buck and I am happy. If you want pro reviews goto cnet.com
Streaming video over the internet is being offered by many manufactures built in their TV's,set top boxes,blu-ray players, and gaming consoles now.All seem to try and get you to watch their content, much of it good but I was mainly interested in Netflixs, and DLNA to connect to my computer. No problems setting up network, and connected to Netflix with no problem.I did have problems getting audio out of one of my DIVX files,so it doesn't support all codex as well as an LG does. The up conversion of SD video, again LG was better.t least on my 55" display. Was able to get one on eBay cheap, saved at least $50.:-)For an entry level blu-ray player and you're not worried about 3-D,take a good look at this one you won't be disappointed.

This is a really nice unit; I bought it primarily for the Blu-ray player and the ability to stream my Netflix account queue from the web with it. Be aware it does require the added purchase of a proprietary Sony USB wireless internet adapter, if you intend to use the internet features with a wireless connection, a standard wireless USB adapter will not work. There is a whole world of video available on the web and this player consolidates it all into a simple remote controlled desktop allowing you to choose from thousands of programs on demand from around the world. The picture quality that the Sony Blu-ray delivers is incredible. The internet is the next frontier in television viewing and this player puts you in touch with it. With the implementations of a couple of inexpensive (Netflix $9.99 and Hulu $9.99) subscriptions I have tens of thousands channels of programming available to me on demand, meaning I can watch what I want to watch and when I want to watch it 24/7. There are some other ventures, like Amazon Video on Demand, and Sony’s own PPV, along with many others that are making this unit one of the most satisfying investments I have made in years. For a fraction of what I have been paying for Cable TV or Satellite TV I can have all that and a whole lot more. It has already paid for itself in programming savings in the first month of ownership, good bye to Direct TV, Dish TV and the Cable Guy, and hello to the whole new frontier of TV on the World Wide Web, and TV the way it should have been all along. I'm a computer and electronics nut and feel like a kid who got turned loose in a candy store, there is so much capability and potential to what you can do with it. For someone looking for a simple Blu-ray player this unit is a steal at under a hundred dollars, when you start implementing all the other features that it offers you, it makes itself seem irreplaceable. So much so that I bought 4 of these now, 3 setup wireless and one on the hardwire end of my home broadband network, we can watch 4 different programs at 4 different locations at the same time without a glitch. Admitted I have ample bandwidth to deliver to each unit but with the money I'm saving not paying Satellite and Cable company anymore and the near future implementation of VOIP phone service, I can afford the extra bandwidth I’m using and still be experiencing big savings. I give it a two thumbs up, 5 stars and and AAA+. I have reviewed this item previously and have ordered more for friends and family. Having played with them the past couple of weeks has reinforced my thought that I was purchasing an item well worth owning, they are wonderful, the picture quality is tremendous and the operation flawless. I will continue to promote these to friends as family. Sony has a well deserved reputation of excellence it makes it a no brainer when I have to choose between them adn other manufactures of simular products.Read full review
