So far; so alright. No real issues as of yet. Set up is a breeze for anyone with basic knowledge. **FYI** make sure you get the correct remote that belongs to receiver. The STR I purchased came packaged with the wrong remote and I had to contact Sony and have the correct one mailed. After set up and auto cali was finished I noticed that in order to get the true effect of this receiver you virtually have to turn the volume to mid 30s to get a "moderately big sound" out of it. Past receivers I have owned never had to do this. Possibly cause today's mechanics are made by lowest bidder. They honestly do not make them like they used to. 110 watts X 7.1 channels.. more like 55 per channel plus you have to up the db to each speaker, add extra distance to speaker placement just to get a quality sound out of it. Plus you truly can't function the whole 7.1. I plugged in speakers to main and then bi amped the B and plugged in a sub.. then tried adding connections to the surround portion and it cut out the bi amped speakers. Reading throughout the manual I have found no such luck in getting the true 7.1 out of it unless I double joint speakers. no zone outs (except the subwoofer); very little optical ports. Average on HDMI Slick look, better for a first timer surround. If your looking for more power and more options .. by pass this one. My 15 year old Onkyo puts out more power than this one, plus has more speaker connections that all function.Read full review
I purchased this to downsize my system in our kitchen, and simplify things for my wife. For the price, it has a good number of featurs, including auto HDMI 3.1 switching. Whatever component that is on is automatically selected and signal is sent to TV and Audio (ie Computer, DVD, Blu Ray).Previously I was using a Lexicon MC-1 preamp and Rotel RB-985 amp,and you can definately hear the difference. It sounds less lifelike and doesn,t pass the goosebump test, or the fool the dogs that it's a real dog on TV test. Saying that, it sounds as good as some older ES sony recievers I have owned, and my wife seems happy enough with the sound and ease of use. One dissapointment, the Ipod docks made for this have been discontinued, and had to pay a premium to get a NOS one off eBay.
The unit sounds great. I am extremely unimpressed with how complicated it was to set up and is to navigate through menus. VERY VERY NON user friendly. I have been told Sony has a language and format almost their own... I have avoided Sony for YEARS because I believe they have been getting by on name only. The reason I bought this product was the price and it had a high rating. There were several complaints regarding the setup which I ignored...How hard and frustrating could it be?? I have used JVC and Harmon Kardon in the past and NEVER had such frustrating, complicated experiences. I don't think I will be buying another Sony product in the future...... I wish Sony would get over themselves and offer the same product in a straight forward, simple, USER FRIENDLY format...it's possible...other companies have been and continue to do so.Read full review
This receiver is good for the price, although its quite hard to set it up the way it is meant to work, I had to look in google several times cause the manual included in the box is very hard to understand, you will be reading and trying to understand it several hours looking back and foward until you get the idea on how to manage some of the functions. . I will add here that there's a Dynamic Compression setting that by default is turned on and if you want this Amp for DTS Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD audio it most be turned off. . Also for those that want to use this receiver to connect it to a PS3 you need to redo the Audio Setup in the PS3 settings menu again and also check the Video settings, cause there are some settings that have to be done there too, like the Bitstream over LPCM if you want the receiver to decode TrueHD and Master Audio tracks. . To finish this, I got the STR-DN1010 and took me some time to set it up but I am very happy with the performance of the unit, clear sound, and it's quite powerful too, it overwhelm my old STR-DG810, remember it have a 7.1 HD decoder and can handle 3D, along with 110w x 7, I mean for less than $275 it's hard to get something better than this ...Read full review
Great sound quality. Can't adjust any options without remote unfortunately. There is a menu screen that can pop up on your TV but you can't access it without the remote. The remotes can't be found online so options are limited.
