My original Sony DVD/VCR unit was acting up, but I still wanted to use it for older tapes (movies) and occasionally to record from TV to VHS (yes, I still do that!). Glad I found a used one that seems to work just like new for a good price (and saved $$ by not having to bring the original to a shop for repair). Thanks!

I was excited to get this machine considering it plays both VHS tapes and dvds. With that said the VHS side of the machine plays tapes great but the dvd player will not play several of my dvds which is extremely disappointing. My last machine played all of these dvds fine.

As stated, it was tested as the VCR worked right out of the box. Was able to copy my old VHS tapes to digital with no issue.

This unit is a great unit at first. I have three of them. The DVD player clamp over time starts to loosen because it's held down by a leaf spring. When it's loose the white disk that it's holding down starts to rattle violently and requires disassembly of the unit and a re-bend of the leaf spring. This is one of the cost-cutting areas of the unit. I have a 2002 model, the SLV-D100, which uses a magnetic clamp method. I wish Sony would've stuck with the magnetic clamp.
