This DVD/CD/SACD player is built like a Tank. Exceptional Audio Quality I bought it purely for its Audio capabilities as a CD transport. Sony has put its best available knowledge Parts and technology in it to eliminate resonance. It weighs about 30lbs. All copper chassis. Well designed detailed and very effective remote control. It’s Sound quality in my words is Very revealing, Detailed and crisp clear as compared to the Amazon Music HD audio I tested it by playing same songs on Cd vs Amazon HD music.

The DVP-S9000ES one of the most anticipated DVD player to hit the market. Build Quality The construction of the DVP-S9000ES is well above average with a heavy build and solid feel. At over 27 pounds, the unit is one of the best-built DVD players we've seen. The transport is quite and smooth and the tray is very thin. The aesthetic value of this DVD/SACD player is quite evident with the blue diamond-shaped LED at the top center of the unit. The buttons on the front panel are not the tactile style, but rather capacitive sensing type switches. This take some getting use to since they don't actually move when touched. There is visual feedback provided by the illumination up the perimeter of the pressed button. The rear panel of the DVP-S9000ES has two sets of audio outputs with the left and right connectors spaced apart to allow room for high-end cables. Both optical (toslink) and coaxial digital outputs are provided. The component video output format is configurable (interlaced, progressive, or selectable) with the 3-position switch on the rear of the unit. A pair of composite video outputs as well as a single s-video output is provided. As with pretty much all Sony products, an S-Link jack is designed into the unit. The Guts Sony uses R-core transformers to help minimize hum and noise in the DVP-S9000ES. Audiophile grade parts are used throughout the unit to maximize sound quality. Sony has incorporated what they call Precision Cinema Detection in the DVP-S9000ES. This includes several processing features. The first is a very accurate film detection circuit that works in conjunction with the First Field Repeat Flags (FFRFs). The 3-2 reverse telecine capability of this machine ensures the best reproduction of film-based material on a 480p display. As with most high-end progressive scan players, the DVP-S9000ES uses different algorithms for video and film based material. Overall one amazing Sony SACD/CD/DVD player for under $500 USD even with today's new technology!Read full review
The Best overall, Nice design, Heavy, Solid, Really nice. Even though HDMI didn't came out that time. 2000 -2009. Nine year later and I still buy it, and buy it 1 more time. this time I paid only $200. And still sounds, video are perfects, a little scratches on the top. But I really don't care. Because everthing else perfect. Especially a front. Nothing wrong. This make my day smile. Sometimes, Money can't make you smile. But this toy make me smile. Because this DVD look like a Tank to me. So solid and so nice. I never seen anything simple so nice like this. Too much features sometimes turn out garbage. hihihihi....Smile man. you try it....None of the blue ray DVD can be heavy like this Toy....yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!A+++++
As a replacement for my original cheap foray into sacd's with a sony dvd/sacd/cd player, I'm very impressed with the dramatic improvement in attack, separation, decay, and timbre for both sacd and cd's. I've not evaluated picture since I forget when buying it was also a dvd player which has been surpassed by newer machines, so not an issue.

I bought this item primarily for its SACD capability, knowing that the CD section was superb, but feeling that I already had a fairly high-end CD player that would come close to equalling the performance of this Sony unit. Was I ever wrong. This ES player completely transformed the sound coming from my system (Rotel RX-1050 Stereo Receiver and B&W 703 speakers). It used to be very good, now it's simply spectacular. Detailed, smooth and full, with a dramatically expanded sound stage. The Sony is also a gorgeous, rock solid unit with a very unique and first-class look and feel. Those who need multichannel SACD capability will need to look elsewhere, but for stereo use, I think this is an absolutely top notch product. Best audio purchase I ever made.
