All the great features of the CDP-CX400 plus the ability to play CD's with MP3 files on them makes this a great sound system addition for owners of larger CD libraries. The CDP-CX455 does suffer from the same common malady of the Sony predecessors in this line, namely failure of the drive belts in the rear of the machine. The material used by Sony for the belt that drives the carousel and the belt that drives the CD loading mechanism does not age well and over time, quite literally liquifies (creating a horrendous mess). To replace the belts, the amount of disassembly varies from model to model and the 455 requires a fair bit. If you're not handy or find it challenging remembering how things go back together, find a friend who can help or a repair shop. The belts are available from several sellers online and on eBay. I've found the non-Sony replacement belts to be a bit thicker but whether this translates into longer life, the jury is still out on that question. Another quirk about these units is that the remotes seem to indicate you can connect three units together for a 1200 CD library. This is NOT the case. Only two can be connected using the Sony control signal cable. Not a show stopper for me and using two connected units to provide continous, delay free listening is very nice. All in all, great sounding players which are relatively easy to work on, I give the CDP-CX455 a firm thumbs up.Read full review

I have this same CD player for over 20 years, so I do know how to operate them. I spent over 9 hours transferring 400 cds to the new one and typing all the titles. The table only turns less than 1/4 of the way when plugged in. It sounds like it is hung up somewhere. I have not had any trouble with the other ones. I am very disappointed. I think I might order new belts for my broken one and try and fix it.

I have several of these CDP CX 455 Sony disc players, so it stands to reason that I like them . They give me a convenient place to store a lot of cds .I'm an old dude so I've been collecting them for a long time. I went through the vinyl , 8 track , cassette tape and cd stage of collecting music . Now comes the digital age . Being of an older generation , I still like to have my music on something I can touch and hold in my hand . I'm still resistant to digital music. As long as I can I'll probably continue to hold out. Here's to keeping cd players around. Thank you.

Every works as expected; the one I bought did not have a remote, but the remote for my Sony 300 CD Changer works great. It is a BIG device; had to cut hole in back of entertainment center cabinet to make it fit on the shelf.

Needed a place to store my extensive music mixes from the last 20 years and have easy access to it as well. The 400 cds were very easy to load and easy to remove when needed. I will use this in my office as well as for entertaining. I have not yet tried to enter the name of the each song and artist. Seems like it will take a long time which is time I seldom have as well as lot of hand fatigue, so I cannot comment on that feature. But that feature is not overly important to me at this time. I may enter some titles here and there when I have some free time in the future. .
