1st, sorry it took so long 2 write this review. I couldent put the cammera down long enough to do so. Cammera fits in my hands, im a woman, also fits in my fiance's hand.. well inside it. Hes 6'3. Even with his big hands he is able to use the control buttons and the touch screen easily. Sound quality is great, u can adjust it higher or lower in a menu. Fits in his pockets or a coat jacket and its very HANDY u can pull it out anywhere... also takes great stillshots. Zoom is great u can see very far away... i would defineatly give this as a gift to basically anyone who likes gagets they will love. The memory card fits into my laptop easily for faster file transfer. There is a usb port for transfer or probably other capabilities when connected to a computer but it did not come with cable so havent tried much else out.Read full review
Small lightweight, intuitive very few controls. Amazing 60x zoom. Video is great. Stills not that great a resolution, vga, but good enough for my needs. Self portraits easy with swiveling lcd, uncommon in still cameras. Battery must be charged while in the camera, so an additional battery WITH a separate charger, is necessary to keep filming with a spare battery. That costs about $30. The format is proprietary: I can easily transfer the pix to my pc, but only the Sony program will read it. Sorry about that. I haven't used the Sony program with it yet. I am happy with it.
I have 2 old Sony 8mm Hi8 Camcorders, and I love them to death. I was trying to find something that was inexpensive, good zoom, good in low lighting, and fast focus, like the old 8mm camcorders. Unfortunately I was not successful. The zoom is relatively quick and powerful, but in average lighting the focus has a bit of a problem holding a clear focus. I have not tried all the different focus settings yet, so there might be hope, but not yet. The led light is weak, but good for subjects 3 to 5 feet away. It does take OK video, it's not HD, but it's average. The still pictures are bad, but they are better than a Barbie camera. (that's not saying much). For a cheap average camcorder, works OK.
This Sony Handycam is an excellent, high quality video camera with digital capture and very easy transfer to my PC. The unit is extremely small and I purchased the Sony hand grip and highly recommend. I have XXL hand size and the Sony SX44 is small for my hands and the Sony GP-AVT1 (Grip mount) works excellent. The GP-AVT1 has all the controls in an easy to use location. The SX44 has 60X zoom and the transfers to my PC are easy to store and email.
Actually the camcorder is blue, but that is not the point. I was really surprised how small it is. Very easy to handle, nice, clear pictures. Easy to load to a computer or laptop. I bought this camera for my son's wedding, in my case I got an extra battery, bigger for extra time. I can't compare to others, but searching around this was the best buy for the price and quality.
