I was required to use this text in a doctoral level research course but the content is very easy to understand and this text could also be used at the master's level. The author uses excellent, real-world examples and even a little humor. One might consider most research design textbooks to be a cure for insomnia but this one is actually relatively interesting. It's one of the few books I've had to have for school that I plan to keep.
The book's title doesn't exactly inspire confidence in its ability to hold interest - the words "qualitative and quantitative" have a way of making my eyes glaze over. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the readability of this book. It was nowhere near as dry as I had feared it would be, and the information is very accessible and interesting. Of all the textbooks I have read (and it's a pretty impressive list, if I do say so myself), this has been one of the most enjoyable.
Got this book for a class and it has been really helpful in writing my research prospectus.

This book has several different learning approaches or styles within the structure of the book. The content is understandable. Review is made easy with definition boxes. This book gave me a big sigh of relief with my understanding of social research methods!
But beware that this is not an American edition. If you don't mind that, then purchase is fine. I have not experienced any difficulties in using this particular edition for my course studies.
