For me it reminded me of 1944, when I had polio myself and spent the following year in the Ithaca Reconstruction Home in Ithaca,New York. It was very difficult being away from Dad and Mom ,and my six siblings. One of the highlights, that I remember was getting to spend time in the iron lung ward helping the people, like turning pages so they could read! Memories!!!

I bought this book for my 11 year old daughter for Christmas. She would check it out of the library at least 8 times throughout the year.It is about a young girl that got polio when it was at it's peak.It describes how she lived and dealt with it.I'm an avid reader and still haven't had a chance to read it.But when my daughter reads it I can hear her laughing through it.
