I bought this one for our new, second gas fireplace. I've used the same model Skytech for about 10 years with our original gas fireplace, which has a smaller font (like the picture) for the temperature values. The first one has had three problems; The first two result in intermittent resetting of the hand remote (time goes back to 12:00): 1) The batteries in the remote were loose and losing contact. I added a piece of a business card to keep them down, and pulled out the spring clips to fix it. 2) The contacts need to be cleaned about once per year. I do this with a pencil eraser when I change the AAA batteries. 3) The soft gray plastic cover got 'tacky' (not dirt or grime), so I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol. The 4 AA batteries in the receiver seem to work for a few years (I use alkaline), but the hand-held remote pair of AAAs need replacement every year. You don't want it to turn on in thermo mode and then die. I also installed the receiver in a wall outlet this time which was a PITA. It won't fit in the standard blue plastic 1 gang boxes they sell at the big stores. I tried a deeper blue box, and it wasn't deep enough either. I ended up cutting out quite a bit of blue plastic in the back of the smaller box to make it fit. I had a pro help setup the gas fireplace who strongly suggested using non-stranded wire from the receiver to the fireplace control with no splices, so I soldered new spade lugs onto the end of 8 ft of 16 ga wire, and it works fine.Read full review

Its as if the contacts for the batteries fail to hold the batteries in. Then the screen stops displaying the temps. It causes the fireplace to shut off automatically. This is all without handling it but one season a few times with no drops of the remote. Its a junk unit thru and thru but youre stuck with it because it came with the fireplace! If its under warranty it has to be sent back and you wait for however long to get a replacement. Then you have to call a qualified installer to install it. So basically youre without your source of heat for the season! Would never recommend this old technology!!

When I bought my gas fireplace it came with a basic Skytech thermostat that worked, but had limited features. So I purchased the SKY-3301P as an upgrade. I am very pleased. This replacement thermostat has a large easy to use display, and the programming feature has transformed the fireplace into a much more convenient and desirable appliance.

This is a remote controller, with several use possibilities. I attached mine to a pellet fueled fire place. The fire place was wired for a remote control united. The one I purchased was a direct replacement match.

Purchased this as a replacement for one that I had for 10 years. This one has larger numbers on the display than my old one. I set it up to use my old "black box" receiver behind my fireplace and it worked perfectly. This one also came with a holder that I mounted to the wall so I can use it like a thermostat so I don't have to carry the remote around. Price was excellent. I contacted my local fireplace dealer and they wanted $240 for it where as I got this one for $105. Big, major difference.
