I bought the SD 15 as an upgrade to the SD 14. As an upgrade it is a good upgrade, kind of a Sd14 mark II. The controls are similar so there is not any great learning curve. The addition of the QS menu from the DP series is a great addition and makes the camera easier to use. The SD 15 now has more advanced flash settings that the SD 14 lacked. The image quality is excellent and detailed using RAW. The SD 14 had a good JPEG engine, the SD15 does not. The jpegs are noisy from the camera at any ISO. With the SD 14 I had a choice of image format, with the SD 15 I must use RAW. I find I need to use -1/3 ev comp for general daylight shooting. . High ISO ( above 800) has been called a problem by other people, I use 100-400 and a tripod so it is a non issue for me. There is no movie mode or live view, so what, I don't use those "features" on any other still image camera anyway. I have a camcorder for video. . Overall I think this is a good upgrade from the Sd-14. The IQ is better than my D200 and similar to my Pentax K7 but with more fine detail.Read full review
I think there are too many digital SLR camera's in the market. For example Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax and others. All of them are really good and atractive for costumers. As I want to buy Full Frame digital camera, unfortunatelly I haven't still one. many days I have spent lots of hour in the internet and looking for handful cameras. And one day I see Sigma SD15 for a reasonable price and no doubt to take it. Me as I am this camera is the best for me. Firstly İt isnot to comlicate. so I can use it only for a capturing a moment. Secondly İt has a Faveon True pic prosessor. This gives picture more realistic as they write in their page. After İt has a good kit lens. İf you dont enjoy changing lens too much. I think thiz lens gives us a wide field to use it. We use it in daily activities like street photographing or in the travelling. I think it gives us a more opportunity for using. I am gladly tell that its price with lens are very very cheap. another reason is that lens and body two of them is one price. İt has some issue to think us. For example If you are professional photographer and need big size photo like poster or need photograph for advertisement in the public area. you think this camera carefully. Because it may no be suitible for your commercial. Crop factor is more than canon or nikon. for instance canon has 1.6 crop factor. This Sigma SD15 has 1.7 crop factor. Lastly İt has average weigh similarly other DSLR.İt has 18-50 mm DC OS F2.8-4.5 as a kit lens. İt weighs 14 ounce. İt has argued that İt worhts of your money. I think it worht me.Read full review
I'll start with the bad news. In low light, the Foveon sensor used in all Sigma digital cameras is not as good as the Bayer sensors used in all other digital cameras. Besides that, the quality of the SD15 photos in good light is better than any other camera can produce, no matter how much money you spend. I'm including both the RAW and JPG images produced by the SD15. Others have claimed that the JPG output of the SD15 is poor quality. I've used two SD15s since they were first introduced, and the JPG quality is excellent, as long as you understand that the SD15 is not a point-and-shoot camera. You have to know what you're doing and have a basic understanding of photography. I also use a couple of high-end Nikons, and the output of my SD15 compares to, and exceeds what I get from my Nikons, the only difference being in low-light situations.Read full review
I like the Foveon "look". Attend to the process and you will be rewarded
