I went to a local race track and tried the auto focus, not as fast as I would like it. Missed some shots, but will try again on Manual settings and see what happens. EVERYTHING before dark was prefect. After the sun went down, well, same kinda problems with every lens I have on Autofocus. I first shot this lens in 2005, glad to have another.

Super Lens!! Picked it up for a trip to Europe & was Not disappointed! This lens is a bit heavy, but what do you expect from a lens that covers from 50 to 500? Great pictures are in there, especially if you bite the bullet and use a tripod above 350-400mm. If shooting a 1/500 second or so, you could hand hold a 500mm and get acceptable prints, but it must be very bright, and you must be very steady. Heck I even got good shots from the fast trains we were travelling through France on! You can't get a better value in a 500mm lens than the "Big Sigma" - a Steal of a Deal!
There is no doubt that this lens is heavy but what do you expect. It takes great pictures if you do your part. In spite of what many have written it does need a tripod above 350-400mm. If shooting a 1/500 second I can hand hold a 500mm and get acceptable prints but it must be very bright to do this. You can't get a better value in a 500mm lens than the "Bigma"!
This lens needs a monopod, especially when doing video. 500mm is the same distance as a standard pair of binoculars. got very crisp images.

I have owned two of these Sigma Lens, and love them. They even take great close-up shots. My first one didn't have a decent seal to keep particles out, but Sigma has since corrected the problem a lot. Can't say enough good things about this Sigma Bigma!
