I like that the phone is just the right size, and is very light. It has great features, like the illumination effects and the camcorder. The only drawback is I cannot for the life of me find ANY way to put custom ringtones on it. I have a ton of mp3s on my MicroSD card, but it doesnt recognize any of them as a ringtone format. I've also tried .qcp and .aac files, all to no avail. It seems Sprint or Sanyo only lets you use the supplied ringers or ones you buy from the Sprint store, which is ridiculous.
The Sanyo Katana Ecplise has been at once my favorite and most hated phone. The style, setup and features are wonderful and easy to use. I have now had two Eclipses and while I love many aspects of the phone, I am ultimately forced to give it a poor rating due to problems with the screen. I initially considered the first phone to be a single defect and purchased another one not realizing this was not an isolated incident. On both phones I have had, the screen goes out. It first begins with a small flicker on the main screen, then freezing on both screens and finally the screens turn to a blank white display and never recover. I noticed another review on here where someone mentioned the same problem and I talked with yet another person in a Sprint store who had the same issue. Sanyo needs to take ownership of this problem and issue a recall. I have talked to Sanyo and Sprint and neither will be accountable for this obvious defect. I've been a Sanyo customer for the better part of a decade and loved all of my previous phones, but this issue has driven me away from them and I will not purchase any more products from Sanyo. I understand that problems arrive in products. My issue is with Sanyo refusing to recall the phones when it is clear that several customers are experiencing major inconveniences with their products.Read full review
The Sanyo Katana Eclipse X is a very cool phone. It has flashing colored lights that can be programmed to show a particular color for several callers. It has an excellent camera feature and is an attractive phone. It does seem to have a tendency for the screen to go out and that is its one shortcoming.
I had the original Katana and decided to upgrade to the Katana Eclipse. I love the phone for the most part but I have had some issues with it. The main screens freezes sometimes so when I flip it open the screen is white, and sometimes when I press the side keys to see view the time on the sub screen it does not illuminate. I have had to get a new one through Sprint but I had to pay my deductible and my new one does the same thing and I don't feel as though I should have to pay when it seems to be a problem with the phones it self. I love how you can set the illuminations to different callers or functions on the phone. Overall I love the phone but the two issues I have are just annoying.
pro: Very good looking phone, easy to use, has camera, bluetooth, web access. cons: camera is less than 1 megapixel, limited functions compared with current cellphones. Overall: Nice basic cellphone, good signal, easy to use, decent battery life, basic photos, web access works well with sprint 3G.
