There once was a quiz show where contestants answered questions about information they had received. Sometimes the answer would not involve ANY prior information and the correct response was "Eye guess." I guess that I will have to give that response about the phone. While many of my friends have smart phones, I am technologically challenged. I therefore employ a "dumb phone." This phone is the worse for wear, and I have prudently obtained its potential replacement before doing so becomes a matter of urgency. Right now, my phone has no keyboard and no camera. I have no real idea how to text and refrain from sending even the shortest of messages (STOP) whenever possible. However, I realize I must move with the times and when the current phone turns up its toes, I will transfer the SIM chip into this one. The persons I contact will be surprised and impressed by my sudden facility with text messages, while my phone will essentially remain dumb.Read full review

NEW Samsung Gravity TXT SGH-T379 Grey Yellow T-Mobile Unlocked Cell Phone T379 -The double keyboard abilities interested me. There is the NUMERICAL keyboard on the front and Slide-Open QUERTY keyboard however text buttons (QUERTY) are small and should be higher for effective and correct texting. I manage with it. -TEXTS conversations are kept in a single contact however incoming texts/ replies do not appear in consecutive order. I hate that-BAD. I am still exploring how to change that if possible -Interface BACKGROUND and MENU COLORS (Blue or Green) are absolutely BORING -The MP3 player sounds excellent. Music fades ON upon start. In other words it won't blow your ears out at start of song or recordings. Good feature. -Can set your own wallpaper choices from your own JPG's-Good. -Can set your own ringtones from personal MP3's-Also has it's own ring tones. -Battery charge lasts a long time despite much daily usage. I charge the phone however every night when I'm asleep. -CONTACTS: Creating contacts can be made to SIM card or copied to either SIM card and/ or PHONE. -If talking outside it's best to use a MIC/ HEADSET option. Ear volume is perhaps limited by the size of the phone.Read full review

Purchased this phone for my father-in-law who has no need or desire for a smartphone. I chose this phone because of the brand and the slide-out keyboard, and basic feature-set. However, the keyboard keys are tiny. Far too small to helpful for larger-sized hands. The phone has also had the tendency to just stop functioning randomly. It remains powered on, but major functionality is lost (being able to place and receive calls, send texts, etc.). To regain full functionality, the battery must be pulled and replaced. Once the phone powers back up, it's back to normal functionality. Software Update feature shows no updates available. Unfortunately, this phone doesn't fit my father-in-law's needs and a replacement (different make/model) may be necessary.

Please remember something first: cell/smart phones come and go on/off the market faster than any other electronic product. This phone model is now just about off the market BUT: it is an EXCELLENT, SIMPLE cell phone with text capability. It is not a home enterainment center, or a small internet ready computer. For a prepaid phone customer (like T-Mobile, AT&T etc.) which uses a "simm chip" to store account information, this is perfect! Also, it accepts a "micro SD" card to store lots of music, videos & photos as well. If you don't need a "Smartphone" and don't want to pay for all the extra account features of a smart phone, buy this Samsung model!
I purchased this phone for my dad (early 60's) in hopes that he would start texting. He has not started yet. This phone offers the typical Samsung experience on their older non-touch screen, non-android handsets. My dad is already familiar with Samsung's layout and format so I thought this would be a great phone for him. My only grip is that I thought this new model would be better, but I have found some flaws that make it more difficult for my dad. The older model had a four-way rocker that is easier to use than this one with its finger slider and the four buttons next to the central navigating key used have individual buttons. They have been replaced with two buttons that rock up and down. I understand this concept but it is difficult for my dad. other than that, this is another solid Samsung handset.Read full review
