I bought the set to replace the off-air VHS copies I had from when the series originally aired. Only 8 episodes were shown on TV when the series originally aired and I only had the first 7 of them. The DVD has the last 5 episodes that were never aired. I was glad too see the episodes I missed especially the second to last episode. Too bad they did not make more. I am going through all my VHS tapes and getting rid of them after I watch them. So far I have watched 30 VHS tapes and this is the only TV series I decided to replace the tapes with DVDs so far - This series and one movie out of 30 tapes that were recorded mostly in 6-hr mode. There were 2 episodes that were not that great but loved the other episodes.

Oh how I wish this series had continued for more than one season! I loved it when I saw it years ago on tv. Young Heath Ledger is perfect as prince Conor, who, after the death of his father, is trying to unite the Celtic tribes of the island we know as Ireland. The time setting is around 400AD, so the Romans have invaded/entered the land. There is the interesting character of Roman Diana, and her "companion" Longinus, who can see into the far future. He is a cursed man who cannot die nor find peace..He will haunt you. I won't tell 's you why here; you need to watch this excellent series. He does not enter the world as a vengeful, evil man...his circumstances create his vicious temperament. Conor's companions are loyal and brave. I especially like his "guardian" Fergus. Each episode is great adventure in ancient Ireland.Read full review

We have always been Heath Ledger fans. My wife remembered watching this series back in the late 90's and wanted to see it once more. I figured we couldn't go wrong if it had Ledger in it. I've only watched the first couple episodes of ROAR, and I already like it. I get the feeling I'm going to be disappointed that it only ran for a single season. That is correct... you can get the entire season in one box set and never have to worry about how many more will be coming. I see the influences of great movies like "Braveheart" and other TV Series/Movies like "The Highlander" in the first few shows. Heath does a great job in this as always, but you can tell it is some of his earlier work (Pre "10 Things I Hate About You"). The series is a story of the Celtic resistance against the Roman armies in ancient Ireland. It has a good mix of fighting and humor as well as love and romance, although you may find the action a little toned down for TV. Probably should rent it before you shell out the money to buy it, unless you have already seen it or you just can't live with Heath.Read full review
