In an age where films are high on special effects (CGI) and short on acting, "Road House" takes us back to a time when the latter was still king. With an impressive on-screen physical performance, supported by a great cast including Sam Elliot and Ben Gazzara, Swayze once again packs a punch in this film. Blending a tough guy, street-smart persona with a contemplative, sensitive side (think "Dirty Dancing"), Swayze is at his best here as a professional, coolheaded bouncer, reminding us of why we liked him so much in the first place. "Road House" is a fast-paced film with an engaging dialogue and lots of good ol' fashion action to keep you on the edge of your seat. Although the premise of this film is basic (simple good guy arrives in town and is challenged by an all powerful crime boss), it's a joy to behold and well-directed. And an added touch is brought by a guest star musical performance featuring "The Jeff Healey Band" playing on-stage in the Double Deuce where Swayze works.Read full review

This is, by all standards, one of the cheesiest movies out there - but IT'S GREAT! Just full of one-liners that are so bad you may find yourself blushing. This is why it is a cult classic. If, during the movie, you get a nervous feeling about what pitfalls may next beset the ‘good guys’, smack yourself in the face and come back to true reality, this is not a movie to become immersed in. If, during the movie, you are anxiously anticipating the next super-cheeser scene (shirtless Dalton [Swayze] doing Tai-Chi by the lake, Brad Wesley [Ben Gazarra] in an ascot, or a mite-infested Wade Garrett [Sam Elliott] trying to make time with a blonde surgeon [Kelly Lynch]) you are in touch with reality and can appreciate the more humorous things in life. The Jeff Healey Band provides some pretty nasty (nasty in a good way) blues riffs that almost make me want to set down my Natural Light and play air guitar. The sweaty, smoky, grimy atmosphere at the Double Deuce should have landed a Set Director Oscar. Semi-spoiler warning --- if, when Swayze utters the line "Pain don't hurt", you don't double over at it's sheer ridiculousness, turn it off and send the DVD to me. I’m not even going to touch the ‘fist catch’ or the ‘Me-Ho’ stuff, but you will appreciate what I’m saying after you see the flick. Here's what it says on the back cover: Swayze is Dalton, a legendary bouncer who comes to Jasper, Missouri, for a special purpose: to restore order at the notorious Double Deuce Bar. In one spectacular fight after another, Dalton rids the bar of thugs and henchman. But when he runs afoul of a ruthless crime boss, the stage is set for a blistering showdown that'll leave only one man standing!Read full review
A truelove story about an out of town Bad Boy, bar brawler that falls in love with the wrong woman. Not the "wrong" woman, just a woman of a different lifestyle, yet their love is all it takes to keep them together. They fight for what they "truely" want, and in the end they receive it. A great bar brawling, bad-boy film. A LOT of Action! A great acting cast and awesome storyline!!! One of Swayzes BEST FILMS!!!! You wont be disappointed!! Rent or Buy It?? Definitely a MUST BUY!! This story is All-American. Go to a small town to help; the bar in trouble, the kindly gas station man (who is old but still has spunk, and oh yeh, has a beautiful niece that will enter the picture a LITTLE later), a rough & tough past friend in Sam Elliott, and a hero-to-be in Swayze that is macho macho on the outside but way vulnerable inside. Swayze's character Dalton has a legend as a mean and efficient bouncer. He is hired away to help the Double Deuce Bar that is in great trouble with a rowdy clientel. He encounters an old acquaintance with The Jeff Healy Band. They perform behind a cage of chicken wire undaunted by the disruptive activity on the other side. The music is great. Be sure to enjoy their music. Dalton easily wins over the girl, cleans up the bar with his bouncer buddies that follow his commands with a nod or a gesture. Be aware of the costumes. Good versus evil is so obvious in their dress patterns, in their daily behaviour and even in cool man Dalton's ritual beverage at work of only coffee. Swayze's hair never moves a muscle. He's coiffed to the 9's. Only in his activities with the beautiful Doctor woman does his defenses yield. We end with the conquering couple coupled in the down home water hole. Corny but sweet. Patrick is mesmerizing in demeanor and voice. Great Performance..or is it?Read full review
