First, I will say that I have been playing for 30 years, 20 years in clubs, weddings, etc. Although I can't say this drum head is enjoyable to play (as compared to a regular head), I will say I highly prefer this over any electronic drum (even the new Roland's). I will say that it is not loud enough to play live music, not even soft jazz. Just in case you were wondering about that. I have a TD10 that I played exclusively for 6 years, and when I jumped onto an acoustic kit, my playing abilities, subtleties, dynamics, everything, had greatly suffered. I had been playing for about 20 years before that, so I was blown away how much it hurt my abilities of playing on an acoustic kit. An electronic kit is still a great tool, but only if it is part of your arsenal. All that hooie being said, these heads also have their limitations. Playing on a regular acoustic set is best, if and when you can do it. Dynamics are an important part of drumming and playing on a real kit is the only way to hone that in. However, in my opinion, having an acoustic practice kit with these heads on them will ensure your acoustic playing will not degrade as it would on an acoustic kit. You will also need some low volume cymbals to round out your volume on the kit as a whole. Even if you just want to enhance your snare playing, or just focus on rudiments, this is a perfect tool for that. It is also great for warming up before a show. I threw one of these on a Ludwig Acrolite and I liked the feel and sound. Again, not as much as the sound of a normal acoustic kit, but it still sounds like an acoustic drum (for the most part). Learning rudiments on a snare is brutal for anyone else within earshot without this head on it!! In my opinion, if you have some moving blankets on the walls and some decent foam on you ceiling, these heads and low volume cymbals should work out fine for you in terms of volume in a house. You don't need an electronic set (but there are very cool for techno, hip hop, etc!). If you still really want an electronic set after reading this I would highly recommend that you buy these heads for your acoustic practice kit and put triggers on them, that way, your acoustic playing will not suffer nearly as much. Diversify your equipment, your skills and your musical horizons and you will find happiness! :@)Read full review
