So far so good
I ordered this fan kit because my hts would thermal shut off after a 20ish min jaunt of high volume. I thought low clearance in the cubby hole it was in was to blame with only 2.5 inches of air gap above, so I thought I'd try to give it some air circulation with these fans. I received fans ahead of estimated delivery date, was packed in ample bubble wrap. I like the fairly simplistic approach to the fan setup. Setting up was pretty straight forward. I liked that I could disconnect the molex connector, which connects the main power wires to the fan and sensor assemblies, so I could run the transformer to the outlet. Then slip the connector thru the access hole in the back of the entertainment console to reattach with fan assemblies on top of receiver. Fan speed, as mentioned, can be controlled by voltage selector on transformer. Fans are about as quiet as possible considering there are two. I really have to strain to hear them at about half speed from 12ft away. Full speed there is a slight whirl that is heard on low volume audio, but can be drowned out with moderate volume. I have found that I can run my Denon 7.2 near full volume in Dolby surround for over 30mins w/ 6ohm speakers and have no thermal shut off incidents. JUST what I was looking for, QUALITY product!
I recently invested in a brand new Denon AVR-S950H. I noticed after some rigorous movie watching, it got fairly warm... Now, I know the engineers either thought it wasn't necessary to add any cooling fans OR they skimped and cut corners on that front, HOWEVER, if these fans get me 3 more years out of this receiver, it will have been worth the $50 investment ten fold. These things are SILENT. Even at 1/2 to 3/4 power, I can't hear them. The thermostat control works flawlessly. I was very pleased with the build quality. Heat shrink on all connections, tight fitting terminations, you name it. Watched "Ready Player One" on 4k Ultra last night and even with a workout on the HDMI side of the receiver AND the audio output, those fans kept the receiver NOTICEABLY cooler. I'm very pleased. 11/10. If you do research for cooling on A/V Forums or chat with experts, they'll likely tell you that your component is designed to work within a certain operating temp and that cooling isn't necessary, HOWEVER, heat is THE KILLER to any electronic device...so why not spend $50 and extend the life even just another year?
