i bought one new about 9 months ago, use it everyday. the screen soon got a "tick" where it has to be manipulated with pressure on the back to show a proper color/clarity. the internal rechargeable battery started out playing for about an hour or more on a full charge, but it has steadily decreased. now it will only play about 20 minutes on a full charge. you can play it indefinitely by power cords however. my biggest gripe is about the user interface and control buttons. i've had two other portable dvd players of different brands. this phillips unit has a very poor design for buttons. they are too close to each other and completely flat, so you can count on having to stop and correct frequently when your finger bumps a button next to the one that you intended to push. the on-off control is a pain to operate, located on the side and hard to activate. the volume of the unit is not too bad but it could use some more power. the volume control is located on the side (a spinner wheel) and is very small with a low profile. because the control buttons are so close to the edge on that side, when you grip the side of the unit to turn the volume, you will accidentally push one of them. i do not recommend this unit for anyone who plans to use it while traveling in a vehicle. i'm frequently dissatisfied with the one i got.Read full review
I bought the Philips PET741/37 7 in. Portable DVD Player with Screen, a week ago and was immediately impressed on how convenient it is to watch a DVD with the simple features on this inexpensive Portable DVD Player. The screen provides a clear picture and the volume is at a good setting. The size is perfect for carrying in my purse and the accessories are great to recharge the battery at home, the office and even in your car. Overall, I'd recommend this Portable DVD Player if you're on a budget. Thank you
I needed a very compact portable device for playing both CDs and DVD's when I did not want to lug along a laptop computer. I was not in the mood to spend a lot of money on something that will only be used on occasion, so I searched for a used Portable DVD machine. This Philips model was almost universally highly rated in it's class, so I found a unit that was in reasonable condition and with one of the lowest opening bids. The unit seems to work perfectly, and aside from a few scratches, just as good as new. Battery life is a bit short, but I don't plan on watching any full length movies in one sitting on battery power, so it does not concern me much. Overall, I am quite pleased.
Bought this portable dvd for my 8 yr old great nephew. Nice looking piece of equipment, wonderful picture and sound, it was in very very good condition. He is thrilled and has long wanted one of these dvd to enjoy in his room, without using the family's larger dvd, so he can watch his own dvds and it is easy for him to operate. It would have been nice to have earphones and a remote. I am hoping I can purchase these elsewhere.
The market for these types of portable DVD/CD players has dropped off drastically since the tablet revolution, but there are still many good reasons to get one. For me, I wanted one for a way to play DVDs through my TV and CDs through my stereo. This player does both those things very well and it is also an outstanding stand-alone player. The picture is crisp and bright and the stereo speakers sound great. The battery works well and has been contained inside which is much nicer than the clunky external batteries of its predecessors. The only thing it lacks is a remote but big deal! Most of the time it's on your lap!
