I have two of these. If your looking for a good replacement to your dead VCR and don't want to get DVR for $30+ a month thru the cable company, then this is the deal...This model has what is NOW a RARE component... A digital and Analog TV tuner... Thus you can record something and still watch a different show on the TV...Similar models now with a TUNER included are like $200-$300++ Just split your cable connection for this model. One for the TV and one for the DVDR Recorder. Or get a seperate antenna for the DVR for digital air reception...Verbatim DVD+RW are about a dollar a piece and work great with this model.. I usually use the 4 hour per disc recording speed and have a better picture than any VCR...Speeds are 1,2,2.5,3,4,or 6hrs per disc. 6hr per disc setting is a little fuzzy....Love being able to zip thru commercials in 5seconds with just a touch of the remote. Easy to program for timer recordings. Even was able to coach the 70yr old Mother to work this Model after only barely knowing how to work the VCR for the past 20years.....Ehh, I could go on and on about this model...Buy it. You will be satisfied, particular if you happen to grab it under $80 refurbished.....I was nervous it would be too complicated or not as flexible to use like a VCR....Happily surprised it is much better indeed...Read full review
For little more than the unsubsidized cost of a digital broadcast converter box alone, this DVD recorder lets you record on-the-air digital broadcasts, as well as make DVD recordings from analog sources such as a VCR or video cameras. And of course it serves as a DVD player as well - great clutter reducer ! I have not put it to extensive use yet but so far it has worked flawlessly for me.
When you have a robust collection of DVDs and a VHS it is becoming harder and harder to find something like this. This unit allows you to keep the good times rolling AND allow you to transfer VHS onto DVD! Great buy!

I bought this DVD recorder because it has a lot of nice features for the price. It records a really clear picture on a DVD. It takes a bit of patience to get it figured out, but it was worth it. It has the TV tuner in it, so it is ready for the Transition of over-the-air television. It's a nice item for the price.
This machine, is just what the doctor ordered, it is the cure for not having to put out a bunch of money, for top quality, easy, to setup, and getting a real high quality, DVD, and with the HDMI output, it'll go right into the ole, Hi Def, digital TV, and thats what you need, so here it is. Thanks DRJ
