I bought this Pentax Spotmatic Camera to do some black and white pictures. The most outstanding feature of this Vintage Camera is the quality of the optics. You can get prime lenses that are very sharp, all metal and glass, for a very low price. They used a mercury battery that was banned from the market but they work very well with a 1.5 volts replacement. Also the camera itself is very rugged, with no plastic parts. A little heavy compared to newer models but it has to be good to survive from the 1970 to this days. You get the feel of a totally manual camera of the old days. You are in charge, you are on your own using your skills as a photographer. Only a few of the best cameras has survived to be useful at this days. By the way I remember seen this cameras in action during the Viet Nam war. For me then, they were out of reach, out of my soldier budget. Now I have the opportunity to use a piece of history in my hobby. I do have Digital Photo Equipment, but when I see a historic place, old machinery, old houses, etc., I can capture the real feeling of the ages with black and white film with this camera.Read full review
This camera body was the original partner for my M42 screw-on SMC Asahi Pentax Takumar lens collection. This copy of the Spotmatic F is in great shape and only needs a new set of seals to go around the loading door. It will be enjoyed for 'hopefully' many years to come. Thanks!

I am yet to finish my testing rolls of film, but thus far, it's an amazing experience, the takumar lenses are extremely satisfying to work with as well as the camera. Nice little features that make it a great full-manual camera, finding a battery couldn't be easier. Loving it.

Bought as a birthday gift for my cousin. His 1st camera was a Pentax Spotmatic. Thought I would get him one to reminisce. To think about the travels and friends captured with it when he was younger. Maybe 50 years ago. I thought it was the neatest small camera (in black).

This is the last Spotmatic made by Asahi. Having used the whole range of Spotmatics as a professional photographer, I can say without doubt this is the very best variant. It is the only Spotmatic that does full aperture metering. On top it is very accurate. Use it with one of the SMC Takumars (I love the 50mm 1.4 after UV fix) and you get a great 135 camera. On the non-M42 side, I use the MX and the LX in small format and am more then happy... I still use my best lenses with the K-1 as well. After a good CLA, replacement of all light seals and mirror damp, it is working like new... GH
