I ordered this matched quad to replace the current SOVTEK EL84 quad that was in my "modded" Carvin Vintage 33 (watt) 1x12" combo. To me, the SOVTEK's, although a good tube used by many manufacturer's for their stock tubes, were cold, harsh and transparent. (I think my mods "helped" to change that tone from the original factory which was not originally as cold, harsh or transparent.) I did some research on what Marshall used for their tubes in the 60's and 70's, as some of my "mods" used Marshall values. They used Mullard tubes. Well, original Mullard (from the U.K.) tubes are no longer made (and N.O.S. are WAY too much), but a quality reissue (from Russia) is available. I read online reviews for some guidance, but focused more on the SOUND qualities rather than PRODUCT quality (see my intro), or whether or not the individual liked the tubes as I wanted to go with an early blues-rock-esque tone, but with my own spin. WOW, what an awesome tone! My Carvin has a NICE warm, colored and dirty overdrive. Exactly what I was wanting. If you are thinking about swapping output tubes, I HIGHLY recommend these reissue Mullard EL84's!Read full review

If you've ever gotten to a/b British Mullards with other output tubes, you know what the world is missing since British production ceased. This is as good as I've heard.
