Purchased this lens to experiment with older lenses on a newer camera body. Attaching this lens to Samsung NX20 body via an adapter. Love the image quality with this well made lens. Focus ring is very smooth. Great old school feel and look. Manual focus only. Down side is image is cropped due to APC sensor vs. full frame lens, but you can't escape physics. Still a lot of fun for the money, just have to adjust what you shoot with the focal length. My first older Pentax lens, so I don't have one to compare to yet, just bought another one of a shorter focal length to try out.
I have to admit that I am a Takumar collector so I have a bit of an addiction to these lenses. The particular copy that I am reviewing is the preset lens that was manufactured between 1958 and 1962, it has an aluminum base and an aluminum aperture ring on the front end of the lens. This lens was manufactured before the incorporation of bayonet aperture closing systems, the way that the user would operate the aperture was to set one of the two aperture rings to the desired aperture for the shot and then focus the camera with the second ring set to the largest aperture of the lens, once the image was composed and focused the second ring would effortlessly, no clicks, close the aperture to the preset aperture, hence the name preset. This lens is exceptionally sharp, I am a Canon shooter and have used this lens on my 6D, I have a couple of Canon white lenses that cover the same focal distance and can honestly say that properly focused this lens does not take a back seat to my 70-200 or my 100-400 Mk II. What is also great about this lens is that unlike modern lenses that are intended to be used in auto-focus mode this lens has a very long focus throw which aids in manual focusing an image. Like all of the older Takumar lenses it is 100% glass and metal, no plastic to be found here! It is truly beautiful, luckily my copy looks as if it just came new out of the box. I haven't mentioned the coatings, this lens was manufactured before the use of modern coatings so lens flare and abbreviations can be an issue in certain situations, this is not a lens that I would shoot into a strong light source because of flare, but for some this can present a whole new world of creativity. I highly recommend any of the old Takumars to anyone interested in the old manual lenses or to anyone who would just like to have a high quality alternative to today's expensive lenses.Read full review

I am impressed with this bargain lens. Quiet, fast auto focus, clear glass, light weight. I'd like to try this on a better camera than my 6.1MP camera. I've taken a lot of low light shots using a tripod and remote with this lens with impressive results. The only reason I didn't give this lens 5 out of 5 is because I have much better lenses, but they cost 50 times as much as this lens does.
I bought this item to supplement my M-100mm f4 macro and my M 80-200 f4.5 as the first has weaknesses shooting farther subjects and the latter is far too large to haul around everywhere. This lens is a great focal length, very small (smaller than the 100mm and the 18-55 kit lens as well), and the image quality is excellent. If you can find one in good condition the optics rival my A 50mm 1.7. A steal of a lens that is a joy to use.
This is a great bargain specially under $70. It works great with my Pentax and Sony e mount camera via adapter
