This camera is almost virtually indestructible. Can handle falls, water and even freezing. The camera has many scenes to choose from, but personally i don't see much difference between them. You can change the ISO and exposure levels, but they don't seem to take much effect in the camera. IT has great resolution, a good user interface and great functions such as the tap control, that lets you manage setting by just 'tapping' the sides of the camera ( useful when you are wearing gloves and such) The camera can detect faces and easily focus on them. It also has a beauty shot mode that will 'fix' up most blemishes in a portrait shot. Panoramic shots are really easy to take with the merging interface , where you match a portion of your first picture to the next so that they align correctly. The zoom is a 3.6x optical, so its not too powerful so you would essentially be pointing and shooting and not doing much of a close up. The camera is TOUGH, rugged and long lasting and underwater pictures come out great, id recommend this camera to someone who wants a long-lasting camera.Read full review
I bought this camera due to the fact I dropped my cybershot from 40" high and it broke. This camera has taken some good hits, but nonetheless, still looking good. Still functional. I don't like taking pictures at night with this camera unless it's in a well lit room. Outdoor night pictures are no good. There are a lot of modes you can flip through, so it's always good to experiment and get to know the camera a little more. Pretty portable. Not exactly built for good filming. Mic distorts sound easily. Sounds worse playing back on the camera than it does on the computer though. Self timer is a little long. Overall, it's not bad. I liked it. It came in my favorite color, blue. Pictures in the daytime are great. (that's all I will be using this camera for).
This camera is working as advertised. The rubber gaskets have held up under swimming pool conditions for a week now, and the pictures are crisp and clear. The camera offers some very good auto scene modes and they are in an easily accessible area for changing on the go. This works well for the casual photographer. We are using it for our son's first swimming lessons. The movie mode is really nice. I think that it will suit our needs better than the disposable underwater cameras we had been using, and the cost for the digital prints should be less that standard printing costs for the Kodak.
Pros: Superb rugged and waterproof build quality Generally easy to use Appealing styling Vibrant outdoor shots Cons: Frustrating display quirks Painfully slow AF in dim light Flash recycle takes forever Average image quality
This camera stands out for the following: - water proof - shock proof - withstands temperature extremes - extremely compact - can use micro SDHC for possibly very large storage capacity (i use 8GB. 16GB is also compatible. Just be sure to use class 2) - rich in shooting features (I especially love the "Beauty" shot and smile detection) - video mode quality is very good even at lowest settings - you can take a new picture within a few seconds (3 or less) of your previous picture. My other camera could take up to 10 sec. to reset. Even new models from competitors can take as long as 8 secs. This is one of the reasons i switched over to Olympus - long battery life (i recommend original Olympus for your spare, generic batts won't last as long) - can use the now more prevalent SDHC memory, and not just proprietary cards like xD (sorry Olympus) and memory stick, making the price for storage cheaper. When i checked, a 2GB xD and 8GB micro SDHC were the same price (about $20). A 2GB MS Pro Duo costs about $25. Other features which i have found useful are: - the dual time comes in handy so i have a home-base and another time for when i travel - image stabilization works great - battery charger plugs directly into outlet. No more long cords to deal with making it compact and good for travel - has a dedicated button to adjust macro mode on the fly - very bright flash - in picture preview mode, you can choose pic by date. a calendar month shows up on the screen and you navigate through the days as it shows you which days pictures were taken On the downside: - camera sometimes takes a while to focus. But this is infrequent and i haven't found this to be too much of an inconvenience - the camera has problems with class 6 micro SDHC cards. Be sure you buy a class 2 card. i was able to word with a 4 GB class 4 card. Haven't tried a 8GB class 4. A 16GB class 2 will also work (tested with my cellphone's microSDHC card) - i wish the flash intensity was user adjustable Conclusion: Great camera rich in features and functionality. I was considering the higher model Tough 8000, but decided to save some money as i didn't think i needed a crush proof camera. I'm sure i won't be careless enough to run my tough 6000 over with my car, hihi.Read full review
