I owned and used this camera for many years and recently, after years with Canon 5D and Olympus OMD microfourthirds mirrorless, brought it out for a day of shooting; result: first place in Mid State Fair photography competition for professional category photographers, black and white landscapes. Control buttons everywhere externally allow easy access and control. Fits your hand like a glove. Only problem nowadays is that the processing of images in the camera are much slower that we are now used to for fine quality images the camera can produce. Still a recommended experience at a good price. Hopefully Olympus will recreate this classic beauty!

I've had this camera since it was new. It's made like a tank, has many controls similar to DSLR cameras, and a large sensor for a camera of this type at the time it was introduced. It is about the lens pretty much. The camera is slooooow, but the lens is great. It takes photos that are pretty comparable to a DSLR in the right hands. The depth of field will be less at any focal length, but at ISO 50 and in good light the photo quality is excellent. I bought my camera at a retailer way back, but I may soon buy another for parts, or as a spare on Ebay...since I have many accessories. I have a Canon DSLR, and a couple of Olympus Pens with many lenses, both manual and auto focus, but I still haven't found my 8080 obsolete. First of all this is one heavy son of a gun. BUT it is the digital camera I have been trying to buy for years. I just had to wait until the price came down into my budget. I want to say that this is all it is cracked up to be and more. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with this camera. After living through digital camera hell with poorly thought out menus. Menus that don't allow access to most or all of the functions/features. Cameras that offered fabulous features that weren't really available to you. I mean, I mean. You can get at anything, any feature on the menu from at least two different ways and all of them are there to make it easy to use. Five different white balance options including, "custom." I can't say enough good about this well thought out camera. The auto-focus just works!! And how about when you are in the Spot metering mode it projects a LED spot that shows you exactly what the meter is metering? No guessing and it just works! BUY IT, LEARN IT... you won't be disappointed, but it is not a point and shoot camera. If your current camera leaves you wanting for more functionality/features, than this is for you. I will admit this camera has made me an Olympus fan. And as such you may believe this review is tainted. It is possible because I find it very hard to say anything bad about this camera. I had used a 35mm film camera a long time ago (cira1970's) and let my passion for photography ebb over the years because of the associated costs for film work. As I got older I found I had time to get back into the hobby but I was a bit hesitant due to the cost. I decided to go digital. I wanted a good camera so I ask a pro what kind of camera would be good for a beginner that wanted to get better results than a point and shoot without having to take classes in order to have a photo worth keeping. He recommended a couple of different makes and models including the then just out C8080. I was wowed by the photos I have been able to capture. Fast and solidly built I have been able to take this all over to get the kind of photos that have made people 'OOOOOO and ahhhh" when they look at my work. I have had this camera on top of mountains, deserts, forests, cities, fairs, convention centers, work sites and farms. Virtually every kind of shooting situation that you can imagine except for underwater. (there is an underwater housing I have considered purchasing but never did) I have put many miles on this camera and carried it everywhere I went. It NEVER failed me. I have recently have gone to the Olympus E series DSLR as my wife wants me to try some real pro equipment. When he heard I had a new camera a good friend talked me out of my trusty C8080. Granted he paid me a very good price for it and I couldn't resist getting that much for an "older" unit, but afterwards I dearly regretted loosing my C8080. This is the reason I bought another one. I want a "fallback" camera I know will always give me a great photo. I am very happy now. I have my new E from Oly and a trusted friend to back it up. I don't think you would be disappointed if you bought a C8080. Oly put a great deal of thought into this camera just to impress the world. I am extremely happy with this camera. The pictures are crystal clear, a very inexpensive set of screw-on macro lenses give me great closeups of insects and anything small, the camera has shooting modes including allowing shutter speed or f-stop priority, and auto-bracketing! For the price I got on ebay (20% of the original purchase price when the camera first came out) I couldn't be happier.
