Why the LCD still doesn't work with the Waveshare provided image?. 800x480 high hardware resolution. Compatible and Direct-connect with any revision of Raspberry Pi (except the Pi 1 model B or Pi Zero, which requires an HDMI cable).
Tricky to get up and running, but great once you do! (info on how I did it in the main review)
The quality of the product is great--clear display, responsive resistive touchscreen--but I had a difficult time getting it up and running. Waveshare's provided SD card image works, but it's an old version of Raspbian, and when I updated it, the touchscreen axes swapped, making it unusable.
I fought with it awhile, though, and was able to get it working under an up-to-date copy of Raspbian I freshly installed with NOOBS. I used the Waveshare website instructions to modify my boot config. then followed some instructions I found on the Raspberry Pi forums. Look for a topic called "Issue with XPT2046/ADS7846 touchscreen on RPi3" for the steps I used. I performed the steps in the main post, then followed ithose with the steps mentioned by user fq1888 in the same post. After doing all that, I finally got the screen to display correctly AND got touchscreen function working properly.
In short, a great little display, but it'll take some effort to make it work for some people.
