This has to be one of the coolest keyboards that I have EVER seen. I just received mine yesterday and I absolutely love it. It was love at first press of the keys. It offers a lot of synth sounds in multiple genres and a really cool vocoder. When I received mine yesterday, I unboxed it, set it up, did a few checks to make sure all was working properly (it was) and proceeded to play it for 3 hours straight. I haven't had this much fun with a synth in a long time. It is priced very fairly and it's feature rich. Both advanced and beginner alike will benefit from the huge range of features packed in to this little guy. Don't let its size fool you. The sounds, the fully programmable nature of it, the look of it, everything, speaks huge. Definitely the best $400 that I have spent in a long time. I am a keyboardist and have been playing since the ripe old age of 3 yrs. I have other keyboards too ( Ensoniq SQ 1, Behringer Deep Mind 12 etc) and this little keyboard is right at home with its larger siblings. If you want something with a huge wow factor, I highly recommend this synth. There is nothing quite like it. I promise you it will give you hours and hours of fun and idea development. Open that DAW and get creative!! The Mini Nova will be right at home.Read full review

The Mininova sports the same engine as the Supernova, Novation's VA beast from the early 2000's. It's one of the best VA engines on the market, with three oscillators, 14 conventional waveforms, 36 wavetables and 20 digital waveforms. That will give you a pretty ample sound palette that goes way beyond simply recreating analog tones. If the latter is what you're looking for, you have definitely better choices, although you'll have to be prepared to shell out a lot more money. But if you want a digital-analog hybrid with a lot of character and offered at a reasonable price, there's nothing that comes even close to the Mininova. If you use this synth for live performance, you will definitely appreciate the "animate" keys that can change your sound on the fly and the nifty sequencer. You get 256 preset patches plus 128 user slots to store your own. Polyphony is a respectable 18. How does this synth compare with its direct competitors in the same price range? Well, it blows the Microkorg and the Micron out of the water. It even compares favorably to Roland's more expensive GAIA, which has similar features but it sounds colder and lacks character. The only mini-synth you may consider instead of this is the new Korg Minilogue. It probably sounds a bit more like a real analog synth and it definitely has some nice features, but it also has serious drawbacks, like polyphony limited to a paltry 4. And it has a completely different character, so it's something you may consider adding to your rig instead of replacing your Mininova. Read full review

I bought the mininova for my studio, as I had heard that it has great bass patches and also the vocoder. Out the box, I was able to use the vocoder on a song as well as adding in some bass patches to layer under some other bass patches I used on the song. This sounds incredible and I can't wait to see what else I'm able to do once I program some of my own sound patches.
