The Awakening is an excellent novel. I bought it for an English class in college, and it was well worth it. The main character, Edna, defies the norm of her time and does as she pleases when she pleases. This aspect of the novel makes it interesting and holds the reader's attention. In the novel, Chopin criticizes how a husband believes his wife is his property. Edna is Chopin's pawn in doing so. Edna defies her husband, which was seen as a very negative thing in her time. I recommend this book to all women who are interested in feminist literature, as The Awakening mentions some strong feminist themes. If you enjoy reading love stories, then this book is for you. However, be prepared for a surprising ending. Overall, The Awakening is a great read and will hold your attention time and time again!Read full review
The shipping was fast and the condition of the book was really good. The story is really symbolic and a great read if you're interested in reading about women and men being suppressed by society and the discourse that has become a part of their very beings.
This book was assigned reading for an English class. Just a sad story, very disappointing, and steeped in feministic thinking.
