I purchased this book as a requirement for my college english class. At first I thought that I wouldn't like it all that much, but after the first couple of reading assignments, I started to enjoy it. It's amazing the way Bronte creates such detailed imagery meanwhile producing such a wonderful and complex character as Jane Eyre. Considering that I go to a women's college, it should come as no surprise that our discussions in class were filled with interesting information and quite thought provoking. Plus the criticism at the back of the book was a life saver when it came to writing my papers.
I just can't praise this story enough. It is absolutely timeless! Full of romance, suspense, mysttery, and even horror. You will fall in love with all of the characters, and your heart cries out to Jane all throughout. If you are a lover of historical romance, this is definitely the book for you! This is a book that must be read at least once in your life.
This is possibly the worst book to force a junior male to read to pass senior English. It brings reason to the question, "Why Johnny can't read". The way to educate young people to read is to encourage them by offering them things of interest, not what some intellectual elite believes is a classic.
