As an amateur photographer, I need a small but powerful enough flash with rotating head, for travel. I've a hands-on experience with Canon 430ex and Sigma EF-500 for Canon, Nikon SB-600 for Nikon, and Olympus FL-36 for m4/3. Now I bought Nissin i40 for my Sony A7ii. It is the most convenient and easy to use flash among the list. The controls are excellent: operation mode, power in manual mode etc. Especially good is the hot shoe lock. In Canon or Olympus, the lock is a wheel that jams frequently. In Nikon SB-600, it's a latch which is much better. But Nissin i40 has no external lock at all! You just push the flash into the hot shoe, and it locks automatically. For release, just press the button. Also, there is no button that releases the swivel head (as in SB-600, for example). Just rotate the head any way you like. It is not as powerful as the rest of the list (GN 27m at 35mm), but it has just enough power for me. The small size and weight make it a perfect travel companion.Read full review

The form factor is small enough to keep the smaller mirrorless cameras continue to feel small. For me it has plenty of power and I love the two button layout. It makes not having a power-draining LED screen is actually nice.
