nice handy little pocket size camera to tote around; the image quality for 10mp is great. It is a piece of technology that had it's moment in history, overall a good camera to teach others on all of it's marvelous functions before upgrading to pricier digital cameras, very, very satisfied for the value of the item.

good, sharp pixels for a camera!!
The main advantages of prime or fixed focal length lenses are their size and weight as well as their maximum aperture or f/stop. Prime lenses tend to be more compact and light weight than zoom lenses. Prime lenses also tend to have a larger maximum aperture (f1.4 to f2.8). This is an advantage when shooting in low light conditions as it will increase the possibility of hand holding the camera and freezing the subject without shake or blur caused by the longer exposures. Photographing using prime lenses with large aperture lenses also means you can get a shallow depth of field which is useful for portraiture where you might want a softer or blurred background. Wide-angle Lens - FX format approx. 14 - 35mm / DX format approx. 10 - 24mm Wide angle lenses are the popular choice for landscapes, interiors, large group photos and when working in confined situations. Standard Lens - FX format approx. 50 - 60mm / DX format approx. 35mm Standard lenses are popular as they are closest to the angle of view we see has humans. These lenses have minimal distortion, which can be flattering to the subject. They tend to use large apertures and allow a lot of light to enter the lens which makes them fast to use in low light conditions. The large apertures (f1.8 - f1.4) also produce a pleasing out-of-focus effect to the background which concentrates the attention of the viewer on the subject. Standard lenses are the popular choice for a wide range of photography including portraiture and low light situations where the photographer can not use a flash or is looking to capture the scene with available light.Read full review

Good camera, but not perfect.
I bought this camera just before leaving for a trip around Europe (mostly Italy) for 6 weeks. I have taken at least 1500 pictures thus far, and by and large they are great. The one thing that is quite disappointing is the electronic vibration reduction. If you have trouble taking clear pictures because of unsteady hands or you are frequently taking pictures while moving on trains, planes, or autombiles, than this is probably not the camera for you. Also, while it is cool that I can take 10 megapixel pictures, unless I am going to blow them up to be 20x25 posters, it really doesn't make a difference above 5 megapixels. That being said....I am taking everything on 10 megapixel just in case I want to blow it up. So it's nice to have the option open. In the "makes me oh so happy" category is the easy to use menus and the panorama assist. I have taken MANY panoramas that have turned out looking professional thanks to the panorama assist.Read full review

Coolpix S550
I like this camera because of its small size and excellent zoom function. I bought this camera because my Canon Rebel was too bulky and I needed a camera small enough to slip in to my shirt pocket.It has the same resolution as the Canon Rebel(10 mega pixel)at about 1/5th the price!What I dislike about it is that sometimes the flash wouldn't work when I want it to work. It may have some thing to do with my inexperience with a new camera whose functionality has not been fully grasped.I cannot find any difference in quality between pictures taken with this camera and pictures taken with the higher price Rebel.
