The insert is a solid unit. Plain, but it cranks out heat. This package deal had everything required to install the stove. The stove has a single air control and is extremely simple to run. You need to really get it heated up be fore you can slow it down, but once it gets up to temp and it's shut down, you'll get a nice, long, hot burn. The eight hour burn mentioned is hard to realize, but I'm getting 6-7 hours of good heat production burning Ash and Oak at 17% to 29% moisture content. For a little stove, it's amazing. The only downside I've found is noise. The blower is noisy and the stove pings and pops on the way up to temp. It's not horrendous by any means, but noticeable. I'm currently in the middle of the second season of use with this stove. It has required no repair. The bricks and baffles look good and it's going strong. I have only needed to perform the typical cleaning and maintenance associated with burning wood. The liner, insulation and other parts were also of good quality. They were all in good shape and went together without issue. In sum, if you're looking for a small insert, this is a great option and the embers package deal is a good one. At least it was for me.Read full review

For a lower priced insert, I'm very pleased with this. My installer had no problem installing the insert and associated liner kit. It takes an hour or so to build a nice comfy hot fire, but once it's going, it will burn for days and give out a nice heat. I've been able to turn off regional heating areas in my 1400 sq foot home and just use this to keep a decent ambient heat. My older home won't get super warm with this, but It's a very good heat source. I do need to let it die out after 3 days of straight burning in order to empty the ash, but this seems to be common with inserts.
