After reading reviews of this videoprojector on projectorcentral.com, and reading user's manual, I decided to find one. So, just bought it in december 2008 for about $450, 4400 hours use with a new lamp, and voila, cinema at home! Let's start by cons: -Blacks are not that black (but performs very well though). -Dust can enter in it, spoiling optics (my case): some low luminosity white spots, low luminosity but noticeable enough in black zones. -4:3 LCD, meaning that 16:9 upper and lower bands are a bit noticeable. And now pros: -Dust that enter in it can be removed easily enough, provided you haven't got two left hands and you're mad enough to dismantle it: upper case to remove, then main board, then tri-LCD cover, then block of tri-LCDs (there's even a 'mini handle'). Gently use air blow to remove dust. No alignment risk like MT1050 series, since LCDs forms a kinda cube. -Very good picture, you really have cinema at home. Perfect for Star Wars, for example... -Can cope almost any connection, even scart with an extra adaptator (scart: the connector we have in France - Ah sorry, yes, I'm french...!), or even HDMI with an HDMI to DVI cable (D type). -Not noisy (important, no?), provided you use an extended life lamp: 29dB only. -LCD technology, important for people like me that do not stand 'rainbow effect' of DLPs. -Very good design of menu structure - but thoroughly read manual, since there are very useful options that do not come in mind at first glance. -Picture sensor, allowing automatic geometry alignment and/or color correction of screen or wall (performs surprisingly well). -Network connectable through 2 PCMCIA slots (wireless or copper) -Upgradable firmware: last version supports 2 wireless adapters. Outdated though. -4000 hours lamp duration (extended life version) or 3000 hours (standard) -Very well designed remote control: ergonomic, includes a laser pointer - can be disabled. To conclude: surely an outdated projector, but especially well designed either for it's picture quality and connexions. Since it sells on eBay between $400 and $600, it's much more interesting than a brand new one, having surely less abilities - apart on black perhaps. Keep in mind that MSRP for this projector was about $6000, that explains its quality. Note that last known price we had in France from a web merchant states 4400 Euros. Tip: if you need to change lamp, do not change light bulb only since lamp block contains an hourmeter (EPROM based). If projector detects a too old lamp, it doesn't start! You're warned! ;-) Thanks for reading.Read full review
I bought two...one for a back up. Fantastic product. I use it frequently and it never fails. I will probable never need the back-up. More than enough resolution for thirty feet of projection.
