Bill Gambini and Stanley Rothenstein are 2 friends from New York University that just received scholarships to UCLA. They decide to drive through the south. Once they arrive in Alabama, they stopped at a local convenience store to pick up a few snacks. But, no sooner that they left the store, they were arrested. They had thought that they were arrested for shoplifting, but they were arrested for murder and robbery. Plus, they are facing execution for this crime. Bill and Stan do not have enough money for a lawyer, good news, that Bill has a lawyer in his family, his cousin, Vincent Laguardia Gambini. Bad news, is that Vinny is an inexperienced lawyer who has not been in a trial. So, Vinny has to defend his clients and battle an uncompromising judge, some tough locals, and even his fiancée, Mona Lisa Vito who just does not know when to shut up, to prove his clients' innocence. But he will soon realize that he is going to need help. This dialogue is brilliant because of excellent performances by both Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci. This is one of those rare movies that you can watch over and over again for hours and not tire of it. This is a truly memorable piece of comedy, and though it was released in 1992, I'm sure comedy lovers will enjoy this movie in the present day.Read full review
I bought this DVD know what a GREAT Movie this is, and the OUTSTANDING Peformances in this film, ESPECIALLY by Marisa Tomei who deserved the OSCAR she won for Best Supporting Actress in this role. Also JOE PESCI, Ralph Macchio and Fred Gwynne ( aka Herman Munster ) as well as EVERYBODY CAST in this Movie are OUTSTANDING!! What a Great Story, Loaded with LAUGHS from Pesci, Tomei and others. You will LAUGH YOUR BUTT OFF watching this one, as well as being glued to your seat to see what happens next, and also, you will CHEER on "Lisa" ( Marisa Tomei ) in the final courtroom scene where she DAZZLES EVERYBODY with her performance as an EXPERT AUTO MECHANIC from her family experiences which make her the deciding factor in a court case which holds the lives of 2 innocent victims in its verdict! THIS MOVIE IS GREAT. YOU NEED TO GET IT NOW AND WATCH IT SOON!! If you love good funny interesting movies that is!Read full review
HOW CAN ACCIDENTALLY STEALING A CAN OF TUNA GET YOU ARREST FOR MURDER? 2 innocent men confess to the crime of stealing a can of tuna they accidentally took and are now arrested for murder. can this get any more mixed up and funny~ it can along comes FAMILY lawyer newly PASSED HIS STATE BAR EXAM AFTER YEARS OF TAKING IT Vincent Liguardia Gambini aka MY Cousin Vinny. (Joe Pesi)complete with leather jacket, NEW York accent and his lovely "fiancee" Mona Lisa....aka (Marisa Tomei). Tomei steals the show and won an OSCAR FOR HER ROLE as the hysterical Mona Lisa. "Lisa" is along to make sure VINNY successfully wins this case because AFTER years of being Engaged the promise is they get MARRIED WHEN HE WINS HIS FIRST CASE..lol Toss in a great performance by FRED GWYNNE (ex herman muster) who is EXCELLENT AS THE "PROPER" SOUTHERN JUDGE. he should have won an Oscar too~ We see Vinny stumble in to court and get held for contempt for his outrageous clothes and mouth~ BIG and funny~ we fall in love with the characters and actors who play the southern town people in this movie. This was based on an actual court case so the events which seem crazy "fall into place" in a hysterical and fascinating plot. The COURT scenes where Vinny stumbles his way though court procedure and NY accent are fun! the BEST scene is where Vinny calls his "reluctant and angry fiancee" as his EXPERT ON CAR ENGINEERING AND REPAIRS TO THE WITNESS STAND ...LISA IS AN OUT OF WORK HAIRDRESSER....BUT she knows more than you think. this movie get better each time you watch it. this is a funny movie and you will not be bored with it. I put in in my top 10 favorite comedy movies ever. a solid 12 out of 10 for excellent acting and writing! if you found this review helpful please remember to vote~Read full review
I like this movie because it is one of the movies you can watch over and over again and still laugh out loud each and every time. My mother watches it and my adult daughters watch it over and over again and we find ourselves quoting little things from it. It is fun to watch and the good guys win out over all. I have worn out two VHS formatted movies and I own two of the same ones on DVD so that I can have one 'up north' and one 'down here in Florida'. The grits scene and the biological clock scene are both memorable because of their humor. The acting is believable and funny at the same time. My granddaughter even likes the muddy scenes...we watch it together sometimes and we age from 5 to 81. The only thing I don't like about this movie is that is doesn't have a sequel.Read full review
