This book reminds me of things my mother instructed us to do - from cleaning house to cooking and setting the table. And so much is still relevant for today's homemaker. As I turned the pages I was taken back to those simpler days when times were good and people learned to make do and be content.
This is such a fun and interesting book! The pages of Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping are filled with old-fashioned recipes, cleaning solutions, and remedies for all sorts of problems. There are cleaning schedules that would be typical of a women in lifestyles past... daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. The book really gave me an appreciation for good housekeeping. Much of the information is out-dated, household tips from before windex and vacuum cleaners, but that's sort of the fun of it. This is the perfect gift for any homemaker, wife, or teenage girl who dreams of owning her own home.
I bought this book because I borrowed it from our local library, and it was full of good advice!! It has guidelines for natural stain removal, even for "ring around the collar" and mildew!!!! This book is perfect for anyone looking for "green" solutions to laundry/cleaning situations, or with small children. Very helpful!
This a perfect laying in the hammock on a hot summer day read. After reading the book I could actually show my children (teens) the manners that have been passed down to me. It was a fun trip down memory lane, bringing back joyful memories of my very southern gradmother. (I have given this as a gift as well because a few friends were writing down the ISBN so they could order a copy)
Helps you return your focus on the home and away from commodities. It is especially a handy referrence for the holidays! I wish there were more copies available.
