I paired this with a Raspberry Pi Zero and the standard Pi-Star image. It was pretty easy to get up and running, and now I have a working DMR hotspot! I'm eager to try other modes as well. One note: in the Pi-Star configuration, I had to choose Modem Type "STM32-DVM/MMDVM_HS - Raspberry Pi Hat (GPIO)" which would have been good information.

I bought from a domestic supplier and got zero documentation with the unit, and it wasn't even fully assembled. Not sure if this is typical or not, but I am assuming it is. Some soldering is required, specifically installing the antenna connectors. Not a difficult task unless you don't have the necessary tools. Installing the hardware on the rpi is a few seconds work, but some standoffs to support the board would have been nice to include, but were not. Software, well I assumed everything would be supported in Pi-Star, and I suppose it probably is, but again, there was no documentation at all so its all a bit of a guessing game. I managed to hobble it enough to get one transmission to decode enough to see signs of life, but the bit error rate was high enough to render it unusable (15% BER!) I have never had another successful decode. I also have a Nextion lcd and have yet to get it to work as well, im sure it will work eventually, but for now, I have no idea what settings are needed to get it going. Overall, I think I would goto some place that provides a fully prepared setup and save yourself the frustrations. My next purchase will be from hamradio1.com, aka next-gen custom hotspots. I met them at a trade show (the owner) and he was providing support non stop for folks the entire show. My time is worth the extra $ and you get a knowledgable american to walk through any problems with.Read full review

While the setup was textbook, I have been unable to adjust out the bit error rate. Without the equipment to prove it, I believe that the oscillator on the board must be varying. No matter what I do, the bit error rate fluctuates between 5% to 10+%. This makes the hotspot virtually unusable. I've spent several hours attempting to adjust this, but no luck.

Great product but you'll need to know what you are doing. It does not come with instructions and there aren't even a lot available online. Update it to get all of the servers.
