I wanted to experiment with "legacy" lenses on my Panasonic G2 and chose this lens to start. (It's one of the cheaper lenses out there.) This is a quality feeling lens - it's made of metal and feels like it and the focusing is smooth and precise. It works well on my G2 + adapter and I have found that I really enjoy manual focusing. The f2 aperture allows me to take more photos indoors, however while my results are fine for online viewing and normal sized prints, it just doesn't produce images as sharp or with as much detail as even the G2 kit lens. This lens did allow me to get some action shots of my children that I couldn't get with the auto-focus of a micro 4/3 camera. And it is MUCH easier to focus manually than the focus by wire of the m4/3 lens. Worth trying if you are not sure if you will like using legacy lenses.Read full review
I've had this lens for a few weeks now and have used it for nearly all of my photos during that time. The lens has some chromatic abberation wide open but past f2 it's as sharp as I could have hoped for, especially for the low pricepoint. A great addition to any photographer's kit and, even as a manual focus only lens, highly functional with the focus peaking available on something like my Sony a6000 body.

Overall, not the greatest lens...that being said, i really like it. because it was cheap, i don't have to worry about it getting damaged if i do something stupid, like drop my camera. because it is a prime lens, i will use it often. i quite enjoy using primes for just about everything. It does take a 49mm filter, but the 49mm telephoto adapter i have, will not screw on due to the design of the lens. thats a huge bummer, because throwing htat on the end of a prime is pretty damn sweet! i was very dissapointed with the weight of it. it feels like it is made out of paper mache. when i got the box in the mail, i was upset, thinking there was no lens in it. but sure enough, there was! it is by far the lightest lens i own, and it is evne lighter than the macro adapters that i have! if you want a good, quick, cheap, easy to use lens, this is it. you won't be submitting any pics to national geo, unless they run a low-fi picture edition, but it will make some memories last, and it is a good lens to learn about light settings etcRead full review
I keep this lens on my camera all the time. This lens is a gem, and for $35 you shouldn't think twice. Wide open it's very sharp in the center with a tiny bit of glow. Stopping down, it quickly sharpens up and is excellent across the frame by f/4. The coatings are excellent too, I rarely have a problem with contrast or flare. Makes a perfect landscape lens and a good portrait lens - 6 aperture blades are its only downfall.

Late MD version doesn't have quite the same all metal beautifully crafted feel and handling as the earlier and faster versions, but it's still good, and compact. Zoom is still smooth. Compared to other similar film era 50's. It's not as fast but it is very sharp, very good wide open even, though benefits from stopping down a little, like most lenses. For how cheap it tends to be it's a great, solid manual focus 50 and worth picking up.
