Very good movie, of heroic crew on historic plane in WWII. Received DVD with deep scratches on standard version. Scratches caused skipping and paused movie. Widescreen version was viewable as received. Scratched surface was not noted before purchase. I should have looked for a better listing.

A very good World War II movie that focuses on the efforts of the B-17 and the aircrews that flew them. In this movie the plane's crew is ordered to hit a very heavily defended German city in their 25th and last mission. Captain Dearborn played by Mathew Modine (Transporter 2, The Neighbor, Little Fish-Strange Pond, Wind, etc.), leads his men into the air battle while their commander and a public relations officer anxiously await the squadrons return. Amid friction between the captain and his co-pilot played by Tate Donovan (Love Potion #9, Good Night and Good Luck, Hercules 1997 edition, No Small Affair, etc), a in-flight dispute occurrs when one of the men is badly wounded and needs medical care badly. This movie is based on the real-life World War II planes's final mission. The director here is Michael Caton-Jones and he has had a number of hits of all types including Rob Roy, The Jackal, Doc Hollywood, etc. This movie will appeal to students of history and World War II as well as action and adventure devotees. A very good movie that will give most of these people a great night of entertainment. The movie is well done with good battle scenes as Nazi aircraft engage the B-17s and the flak batteries batter the airplane as it nears the German city. A very good effort, Recommended.Read full review
A great story on the Memphis Belle. So many aircrews lost in WW2. They made it through. Not an easy task. The movie brings you into the times of this war. The lives and the fears of young men and women of the day. It is a very telling story of aircrews then. I loved the way in which it was produced, and the actors too. Happy to have it in my collection. Thanks. Sincerely, Rick L.

Excellent story about the lives and attitudes of the young men of the crew of a B-17 Flying Fortress, the "Memphis Belle". They has successfully flown twenty-four missions and were scheduled to be rotated home after completing their twenty-fifth mission. They were the first crew to reach that magical number, and just needed one more. This movie is about the last day and night before that mission, and the actual flying of that mission. It won't be a milkrun. They are going to Germany and will be flying over Nazi-occupied Europe all the way. This will be their most dangerous mission. Their target is a series of factories in Bremen. Afterwards it will be home to a hero's welcome.
