Who doesn’t love Rodney Dangerfield?! In my mind, he is one of the great comics of our generation – and Meet Wally Sparks was one of the last features films he was in before dying. Meet Wally Sparks is definitely a B-line comedy that was produced for peanuts and relies on Dangerfield’s one-liners and comedic performance rather than big-budget, big-studio scenes or action. That said, the cast features tons of great performances and performers including Burt Reynolds, David Ogden Stiers, Michael Bolton, Debi Mazar, Tony Danza, Gilbert Godfried, Stuttering John, George Hamilton, Sally Jesse Raphael, Morton Downey Jr, Alana Stewart and Jerry Springer. The result is belly-achingly funny movie that, when it ends, you wonder why you enjoyed it... but you did!
Wally Sparks (Dangerfield) is the host of a sleazy tabloid-style TV talk show who makes Jerry Springer seem gentle by comparison. His show has become so foul that he's alienated his not-especially-discriminating viewers, and his ratings are taking a nosedive. Lenny Spencer (Burt Reynolds), head of the network carrying his show, gives Wally an ultimatum—he has a week to clean up the content and boost his ratings, or his show gets cancelled. Wally's producer Sandy Gallo (Debi Mazar) comes up with an idea—Floyd Preston (David Ogden Stiers) is the governor of Georgia and a staunch conservative known for his attacks on the lowbrow content of Wally's show, so what better way to demonstrate that Wally is trying to change his ways than having Preston on as a guest? In order to persuade Preston to appear, Wally attends a reception at the Governor's mansion, where he makes the mistake of getting in a drunken game of strip poker with Preston's wife Emily (Cindy Williams) while somehow involving himself in a plot to blackmail the Governor. And the complications keep coming when Wally's son, Dean, begins a romantic relationship with the Governor's daughter.Read full review
If not the funniest comedy ever made, it's certainly right up there. Rodney is hilarious in this one as a talk show host who gets involved with a senate election in Georgia. This has it all, funny lines slapstick, and a hilarious story line. I give it 100 stars !

I bought this movie as a birthday gift for my husband by his request. He has wanted it for a long time and we have been unable to find it. We found it on E-Bay! This is a very hilarious movie and we have watched it several times. It is the usual Rodney Dangerfield movie, with silly parts and extremely funny parts, with Rodney's character traipsing through life wondering "Who, me? Did I do something to cause this chaos?" Anyone watching this movie will love it if they like Rodney Dangerfield.
I think this movie is great! I laughed a lot and think Rodney Dangerfield is very funny. This material is like his night club act--not for everybody, but most would enjoy it. If you are a fan of the Nutty Professor or Norbit you'll like this!
