This particular volume has been signed by six (6) of the authors or illustrators of the volume. It therefore possesses value for devotees of Inkling above that of other First/First the publications of the volume. It is also an unique volume in the academic & critical analysis of JRR Tolkien's work that centers on the Hobitt & LOR because it incorporates other religious philosophy's content themes and narratives. It's contributors do in general deal with the analogies to other Christian themed legends and retelling of struggles with temptation, fellowship and eventual redemption. I particularly recommend it for those readers who desire to understand or consider JRR from multiple perspectives. Several of the contributors pick up themes to my knowledge as of yet not dealt with by other more academic writers and critics of JRR's work. In addition they link some of the themes to other Inkling writer notably c.S. Lewis' treatment of the same moral or religious question. Many of the themes are common to all Inkling writer but several new threads of thought are developed and prove worthy of consideration by serious scholars and casual readers of the Inkling school.Read full review
